api - How does a site like kayak.com aggregate content? - Stack Overflow

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4607141/how-does-a-site-like-kayak-com-aggregate-content

Saved by uncleflo on June 7th, 2013.

Greetings, I've been toying with an idea for a new project and was wondering if anyone has any idea on how a service like Kayak.com is able to aggregate data from so many sources so quickly and accurately. More specifically, do you think Kayak.com is interacting with APIs or are they crawling/scraping airline and hotel websites in order to fulfill user requests? I know there isn't one right answer for this sort of thing but I'm curious to know what others think would be a good way to go about this. If it helps, pretend you are going to create kayak.com tomorrow ... where is your data coming from?

SQLite Query Language: Aggregate Functions

http://www.sqlite.org/lang_aggfunc.html

Saved by uncleflo on February 28th, 2012.

The aggregate functions shown below are available by default. Additional aggregate functions written in C may be added using the sqlite3_create_function() API. In any aggregate function that takes a single argument, that argument can be preceded by the keyword DISTINCT. In such cases, duplicate elements are filtered before being passed into the aggregate function. For example, the function "count(distinct X)" will return the number of distinct values of column X instead of the total number of non-null values in column X.
