No amount of equipment can compensate for lack of knowledge, skill, experience and judgment. Nevertheless, without the right equipment, you will not be safe and your ability to learn will be compromised as well. Here is a list of the items you will need to take part in any one of our Cave or Technical Diver courses. Certain specialty programs may require additional equipment (such as an expedition-grade DPV for the DPV course). You will not, however, need stage bottles for entry-level Cave Diver training, nor will you need a deco bottle if only taking the Apprentice Cave Diver course. Some of these items you may already own. Others you may need to purchase. If you will be flying to Florida to take your course, you should plan on renting heavier items, such as tanks, here. Overall, it is best to own as much of your equipment as possible.

If you’re buying your first home or getting ready to invest in securities for the first time, you probably have a lot of questions. The first and most important should be, “How do interest rates work?” This is an invaluable first question to ask because it’ll govern how you look at your investment – whether you’re a borrower taking on new debt or an investor calculating ROI. The fact is interest rates are the defining variables that control investments. Even more important than time, interest rates dictate what you can expect to gain from an equity or owe in debt. But they’re not just numbers – they have meaning and purpose. Understanding how interest rates work is your secret to maximizing your choices when it comes to investing. Here’s what you should know about this all-important governing factor. An interest rate is a percentage of a principal value that’s owed in regular intervals over the term of an investment. It’s the cost of borrowing money. Or, if you’re the creditor, it’s your rate of return. An interest rate is what makes lending money lucrative, and it’s a way of determining the cost of borrowing before you decide to take a loan. Here’s a simple example:

Eddy himself is a fanatical technical and cave diver, with a passion for (underwater) photography. To combine his hobbies in an ideal way, he began years ago with the manufacture of specialized equipment for the technical dive team he takes part in. He produced products like stainless steel springstraps, electrical dry suite heating, special HID dive lights and strobe arm systems for cameras. These products and services were also very popular outside his own team. This resulted in the creation of his own company: Scuba Support. A professional workshop at his home makes it possible to both develop and construct the products entirely. This also makes it possible to immediately repair at the workshop, in contrast to regular dealers who must submit materials for repair. With a fine electronic and mechanical training and years of experience in a company that specializes in medical and laboratory equipment it is safe to say that Eddy van Vliet has a technical background. Since O2 cleaning and servicing of equipment is highly specialized work, more and more dive centers find their way to Scuba Support. Also, he´s regularly consulted by diving centers when it comes to equipment maintenance, filling and gas blend systems. As a certified service technician and NAUI instructor, specializing in the Gas Blending Equipment and Service training, Eddy is very equipped to give practical instruction. He is also one of the editors of the website DuikenInBeeld.tv . On this website, he publishes articles and equipment tests.

Landlocked Luxembourg is one of the richest countries in Europe, with the highest per capita GDP in the European Union.
Taking up 2,586 square kilometers, Luxembourg is roughly the size of Rhode Island. From the capital of Luxembourg City, Belgium, France and Germany can all be reached by car in half an hour. High housing costs, especially in Luxembourg City, mean more than 180,000 of its workforce commute from those neighboring countries every day. "Luxembourg is a very attractive place for jobs," explains Geoffrey Caruso, a professor at the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research specializing in land use and transportation. But its "booming economy" and high concentration of jobs have led to congestion issues, he says.

Photographers Rachel and Daniel of Mango Street have released a 5-part video tutorial series that teaches how to plan a shoot, find a suitable location, secure the ideal model, conduct the shoot, and edit the results. The shoot was conducted using a Canon 5D Mark IV and a Hasselblad x1D. Thoughts on the latter are found in the final video in this series. In this video, learn how to create a mood-board that will guide you through the entire shoot process, keeping you on track. For example, with the shoot being inspired by the French vintage style in the movie Amelie, images from Google of these specific styles were used to inform the stylist via the mood board. With a $300 budget for finding a location, adapting and compromising was definitely on the cards. The photographers look at both the color and texture of a shoot location, as well as the light and interactivity of the area.

Living north of the Arctic Circle meant learning fear and its power to motivate in the face of danger—whether from a bear or climate change. How long did I walk in the footsteps of the bear? It was a warm day, 20 years ago and 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle, the sky translucent blue behind low mountains. The tundra, just starting to turn autumn crimson and saffron, held all my attention. Eventually, I looked down at the trail. And there: the ovoid front paw prints, claws puncturing a constellation into the mud inches above each toe, trailed by back feet as long as two hand spans. Grizzly. Next to them, indentations from my boots. Both filling slowly with water.

The CDG believes that their cave diving procedures, developed by continuous improvement over 70 years, represent the best way to produce a well trained, intelligent and alert diver. Solo cave diving in the UK can trace its roots back to early dives by Graham Balcombe and Jack Sheppard in Swildon’s Hole in 1934. The procedures developed in the 30’s were formalised by the founding of the Cave Diving Group in 1946. A constant theme throughout the existence of the CDG has been to adapt materials and methods to the job in hand and to be open to continuous improvement. Cave diving has become extremely popular throughout the world. Florida is one of the regions blessed with many cave diving sites of outstanding quality and easy access. Consequently, there has been an explosion of popularity in cave diving in the USA. It is estimated that there are as many as 20,000 cave and cavern divers in Florida alone. These divers are organised into a number of national bodies including the National Speleological Society, Cave Diving Section and the National Association for Cave Diving. The generally agreed advice from this wealth of experience is that cave diving in the USA should be conducted by teams of divers in a buddy system and that solo cave diving introduces an unnecessary level of risk. Despite this advice the Cave Diving Group continues to recommend solo cave diving as the safer alternative for UK sump conditions. Why is that?

NatWest is to convert all of its debit cards to Mastercard, giving the card scheme a massive leg-up in its efforts to break the UK dominance of rival Visa. While this conversion may "give the card scheme a massive leg-up in its efforts to break the UK dominance of rival Visa", it does little to improve competion or result in lower card acceptance costs for merchants. While the interchange fee regulation caps fees at 0.2% for debit cards, the Mastercard card scheme fees are significantly higher than those of Visa so will result in much higher costs for merchants - and ultimately consumers. This is not good news. Also, as the interchange fees are capped, there is little incentive for card issuers to switch brands as their income remains the same - unless a 'behind the scene' deal has been done to sweeten the deal - which would (in effect) be contrary to the anti-circumvention clause of the IFR.

Jobs for systems architects can be found in just about every city in the US, and systems architects are paid well for what they do. If you're technologically minded and looking for a career with lots of opportunities, this one may be a great fit. If your tech dream career involves lots of job openings, opportunities to be creative, and above-average pay, think about becoming a systems architect. Every company that uses computers needs one because it's the systems architect's job to oversee the design, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of the tech infrastructure. As a systems architect, you will work with software, hardware, servers, internet and intranet connections, and web portals, along with teams of engineers and other architects. You might also be responsible for overseeing network security. In short, you will survey an organization's computing needs and budget, and then figure out how to create an IT infrastructure that has the required resources and offers the desired user experience. When you become a systems architect, you can work in industries as diverse as telecommunications, healthcare, defense, retail, and banking. A quick look at Glassdoor typically yields openings for systems architects at companies like CVS, IBM, Apple, Amazon, and Bank of America, paying anywhere from $60,000 to more than $150,000 per year. Landing one of those jobs is a matter not only of getting the right education but also the proper certifications and experience.

Most boaters have one very important thing in common. The safety of their boats often depends on it. Their own safety - sometimes their lives - may depend on it. This thing is used on an everyday basis and also during emergencies and in storms. But few of us give it much thought. Few of us have a clue about what makes it good, bad or indifferent, although we should insist that it be "good." This thing is the pier. I have a clue now. I thought I did before, but I learned a few things recently because my pier of 27 years began falling apart. I had been concerned about it for some time because wooden pilings, stringers and crossties don't last forever in water full of things that eat wood. But the pier was supposedly well built, and it seemed to be doing its job, so I left it alone. As a result, I learned some things about what we should look for when we call a marina to seek shelter in a storm, rent a slip for a season, buy a "dockominium" or even rent a slip overnight. Doing any of these things without giving some thought to whether the pier can do the job you need could cause you big trouble.

There are 3 types of technology utilized in the solar panels available on the market today, these are monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and thin film amorphous. As the names suggest Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline are both types of solar cells that are made from crystalline silicon. Almost all quotes you will get when considering buying solar panels for your home will use crystalline solar panels. 2-3 years ago the most common type of solar panel used in residential solar installations in America were monocrystalline solar panels but in the last three years polycrystalline solar panels have become the most commonly used solar panels in residential solar installations in America.

Photographer Max Siedentopf has a new project that examines one of the most boring types of photography: the passport photo. The series shows that even though passport photos need to be boring, the photo shoots themselves don’t.
Official passport photo requirements are extremely restrictive and specify the exact framing (centered with the subject facing straight on), lighting (a clear background with no shadow), and facial expression (no smiling). “It seems almost impossible for any kind of self-expression,” Siedentopf says. His project, titled Passport Photos, “tries to challenge these official rules by testing all the things you could be doing while you are taking your official document photo.”

When picking a switch to use in electrical design, many people believe they can use any switch, provided its current rating is more than the maximum load in the circuit. This, of course, isn’t true. Alternating current (ac) or direct current (dc) circuits are capable of carrying very different currents, as illustrated by the ratings on the switch in Figure 1. This is why it’s so important for designers and engineers to understand how to pick the right switch for their product.

Welcome to Boatworks Today, a show supported by viewers like you! Hey everybody, my name is Andy Miller and I am the creator of Boatworks Today… A little bit about myself and this show! I went to college at St. Norberts just outside of Green Bay (GO PACKERS!) and finished up there with a BA in Psychology and Sociology. Finding out a little too late into the curriculum, I decided that I didn’t really want to spend the rest of my life listening to people complain about themselves (yea, I had some internships that left a bad taste in my mouth). So, after graduation I was off to figure out what it is that I REALLY wanted to do with my life. I bounced around a bit, met the lovely person who is now my Wife, bought a sailboat and we lived on it for a while. Became a scuba instructor, but decided that boats were something that called out to me. I took an entry level apprenticeship position at one of the local marinas and after roughly 7 years with them I decided to pull the trigger and venture off on my own. Miller Boatworks was created, and the rest as they say is history! MBW focuses on cosmetic repair (gelcoat, paint, fiberglass) as well as custom woodworking & refinishing and complete boat restoration..

The IPX Rating System is used to evaluate how resistant products are to environmental conditions. Many cycling and camera products often come with an IPX rating letting the consumer know how well an item will hold up under certain environmental conditions. The IP (Ingress Protection) numbers are written as IPXX, where “X”s are placeholders for numbers. The first “X” represents solid (dust/particle) resistance and the second “X” represents liquid resistance (water). When looking for cycling equipment or photography equipment, those products that have a higher IPX rating will be able to withstand the elements for longer periods of time without failure. For those who commute by bike, an IPX4 or greater will help keep your gear dry.
