The DFW Metroplex is located in the part of Texas known as "Tornado Alley." Severe weather can occur anytime but the spring and summer months are when thunderstorms can fire up in a heartbeat. The best advice is to conduct tornado drills at home just like the schools do routinely. Be prepared. Be safe. I grew up in the Wichita Falls area and witnessed the devastation from one of the worst tornadoes in Texas. It was a mile and a half wide and it stayed on the ground for miles and miles. This killer tornado struck back in 1979, and it's a wonder more people weren't injured or killed. Technology today can pinpoint suspicious cloud rotation and predict what parts of town need to take immediate shelter.
