Last week I found this post about writing a template engine in 20 lines, which in turn is inspired by John Resig's post on the same topic. I find them really simple, interesting and inspiring so I came up with the idea of making a simple client side router in just 20 lines of code.

URL Routing means that you when click on a link, instead of being routed to another page, you stay on the same page and the content changes. When this happens, usually a “hash” will be appended to your current URL so that the user can go directly to the content they need as well as using back and foward buttons in the browser. URL routing is a foundation of almost any single page web application. Sammy.js is a very simple library for doing just that, and I will provide a simple example of how to use it at the end of this article.

Nowadays the popular single page applications are everywhere. Having such application means that you need a solid routing mechanism. Frameworks like Emberjs are truly build on top of a Router class. I'm still not sure that this is a concept which I like, but I'm absolutely sure that AbsurdJS should have a build-in Router. And, as with everything in this little library, it should be small, simple class. Let's see how such a module may look like.

Not quite sure what's going on here. Today in particular, my home phone has rung a good dozen times, the display on the phone just shows "100" or "101". There's never anyone on the end.

Page is a small client-side routing library for use with building single page applications (SPAs). It has a simple API which is inspired by Express. It utilizes the HTML5 history API under the hood, which is what allows you to build smooth user interfaces while still having linkable URLs for different pages of the app.

Before we get into setting up Linux networking on a Debian system, we'll cover the basics of how to set up a network with both Windows and Linux systems and how to make it a "private" network. Here the term "private" may not mean what you think it does. It has to do with the IP addresses you use on your home or business network. You'll then understand the value of having a broadband router (for home networks), proxy/NAT server, or a firewall system which also performs the proxy/NAT function on your network.

Let me explain my setup (LAN-wise), and what I wanted todo. My "main" Ubuntu box is connected to a LAN thru Ethernet to a WiFi router, and the rest of the LAN connects to the router (wired and wireless, computers, Tablets, Phones). I usually have a working Cable Internet connection, and all this runs fine. My main box also does not have WiFi. Recently, my modem stopped working, and would be a week/two weeks to get another (gotta love cheap/small ISPs). I have a Android phone running Froyo (2.2), and it was REAL simple to tether this to my main box. I also have the option of "wifi tethering" the phone, thru a ad-hoc network. However, I couldn't do both at the same time. Plus, I use repeater access points on the WiFi portion of my LAN, and the remote computers cannot connect to the phone.
