It's time to talk about front-end. This guide will walk you through the localization of JavaScript apps using jQuery.I18n by Wikimedia, Polyglot by Airbnb, and Globalize by jQuery. Internationalization (dubbed as i18n) and localization (l10n) are very important (though often hard) steps for any application that is going to be used worldwide. In one of our previous articles, we saw how to implement I18n at the backend powered by Ruby on Rails, but today it’s time to talk about frontend. This guide will walk you through JavaScript Localization from A to Z, using the following solutions: All of these solutions are quite different and have their own specifics, so we’ll see them all in action. The source code is available at GitHub.

Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML). Thus, “Markdown” is two things: (1) a plain text formatting syntax; and (2) a software tool, written in Perl, that converts the plain text formatting to HTML. See the Syntax page for details pertaining to Markdown’s formatting syntax. You can try it out, right now, using the online Dingus.

With the comeback of 'semantic markup' people are once again looking at what's the right tag to be using for different types of information. For example, unordered lists for navigation and tables only where absolutely necessary. One commonly overlooked option for markup of glossaries and definition lists is the dl attribute itself.
