The goal of this build was to use as many off-the-shelf Openbuilds components as possible, leveraging bundles to simplify the build further. Still, there are a few pieces that need to be custom printed, such as the mirror and laser head mounting plates and the Mini V gantry shims. The gantry shims are essential to ensuring the height remains consistent as the beam travels from mirror to mirror. The main problem with stock "Cheap Chinese" "K40" 40W CO2 Laser cutters commonly purchased off of eBay is that they use custom, hard-to-find hardware of often questionable quality and consistency. Also, their chassis separates the tube and its fixed X Stage mirror from the moving Y Stage, thus making it nearly impossible to ensure the mirror heights stay consistent. This creates a needlessly painful alignment problem that many people constantly suffer from. Still, the core laser components provided in a stock K40 are serviceable, so the hope is that this replacement rail system will allow for a relatively affordable modification option that drastically simplifies the alignment process by improving the component quality and integrates the stages together to effectively turn a 3 dimensional alignment into a 2 dimensional one.

With microcontrollers and other Integrated Circuit (IC)’s getting smaller and smaller Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design gets more and more difficult. 2 layer PCB design is getting common for small companies and hobbyists but 4 layer or more is a bit daring for those used to 2 layers. When designing a circuit with a Ball Grid Array (BGA) that has 100 or more pins a 4 layer circuit board is necessary, but more layers can make designing easier. With prices of 4 layer boards getting lower it can be a better idea to route a board thats hard to do in 2 layers in 4 layers as it can save a lot of time. This document will explain the basics of routing PCBs with 4 or more layers with Cadsoft Eagle.

Sailboat Rigging Diagram. Founded by Ray Walsh and Len Wakefield as Thames Structural Plastics, originally to build fiberglass components for a number of industries. The emphasis turned to the manufacture of boats early on. The first sailing yacht was the 23' SNAPDRAGON (1962). Expansion came in a number of stages and the company started to build it's own factory at Canvey Island, Essex. (1965) As TSP Ltd., the company began doing the moldings for other boat builders; Thames Marine became the name for selling their own models. There was also a branch that built power boats and another to build the Prout line of catamarans. No longer in business.

After three and a half years of sailing around the world and well over 10000 nautical miles we wanted to give you a tour of our floating home as it is now. Nahoa is a 2005 Lagoon 410 owner’s version that has carried us all this way. We have worked hard over these last years to set her up for long term offshore cruising. While there is always a project list and a wish list (new high output alternators, spinnaker, new Genoa), we are very happy with our current setup and wanted to share it with you. Our longest video to date includes a high level view of our main power, navigation and safety systems that enable us to live life off the grid. Don’t worry you also get a detailed tour of the inside of our boat and the comforts that keep us happily sailing around the world! Nahoa has had a huge remodel since we purchased her in 2015. We have done 2 refits to get her setup for comfort and to solve our power requirements. Notice all the beautiful green has been replaced? Well that isn’t all! Below we have a list of some of the main components we have added or replaced. This list does not include basic maintenance items since those are essentially relentless. It does however cover some of the bigger items which were replaced as they broke and wore out. We have found that in the last year, as the boat turned 12-13 years old, we have had to replace more of the remaining systems. Also the previous owner had replaced standing rigging and so that is something we have not had to yet tackle, but it will come up again soon! The Torsen differential has many patented components and, is the most unique and ingenious method of providing differential action while overcoming the traction difference problem. This article gives a logical introduction to the working of Torsen differential. If you are familiar with the other common technologies used to overcome the traction difference problem, you might have noticed a great advantage of the Torsen. While the other technologies allow the drive wheel to slip for a limited amount of time before it gets locked, in Torsen the locking action is instantaneous. That means as soon as the vehicle encounters a traction difference track the wheels will get locked. They are also compact compared to their counter parts.
