I read that there is a 25 minute limit on live streaming with the theta v? Why is this? Do you know if it can be changed? I was doing test with both 4K live streaming 2 and spatial audio 3. I don’t know the technical reason for this or if it can be fixed with software in the future. I’ll ask around. Update: I am closing this topic to help other people find the info they are looking for. The answer is that there is no time limit on live streaming. I’ve tested it for more than 2 hours. My test was in an air-conditioned room. We do not know if there will be overheating problems in the future, but we know that there is no technical limit on live-streaming.

Ricoh has been in the 360-degree camera game for a long time—way before johnny-come-latelies like Samsung and Nikon. Things started back in 2013 with the original Ricoh Theta and now four years later, the company is back with the $430 Theta V. New features include 4K video and spatial audio capture, however, even with all those bells and whistles I’m having a hard getting excited about Ricoh’s new camera. The problem isn’t with the camera itself, it’s the medium. As I think back on the thousands of videos I watched since 2013, not a single 360 video sticks out in my a something truly memorable. Even when I dig a little deeper and consider things like Casey Neistat’s video about droneboarding or a tour through California Extreme with Steve Lin and Drew Scanlon, the source of the white blinking guy meme, I can’t help but think that both of these clips would have been better as boring flat clips.

Theta360 Guide Dealing with Heat during Live Stream

The unit below overheated 16 minutes into the shoot. It is using UVC Blender and a USB cable during an indoor shoot at Stanford during a crowded VR event. If the THETA is overheating, point a standard household fan at it. The airflow may be enough to cool the outside of the THETA and help with the internal overheating. People have reported success by sticking $6 Raspberry Pi heatsinks onto the body of the THETA or taping or attaching a small fan used for computer CPUs to the outside of the THETA. 6 piece Addicore heatsink for Raspberry Pi for $5.95; Mudder 8 piece black heatsink cooler for RPi for $6.99; TinkerCad Fan Holder for 3D printing.
