Learn how to code creative animations using SVG paths and the getPointAtLength() function. SVG is a very neat format to display any illustration, icon or logo on a website. Furthermore, they can be animated in CSS or JavaScript to make them more attractive. But SVG can also be used for their data only, without the visual! Let me explain… An SVG is a vector image format, which means it is not made of coloured pixels, but math functions that, once interpreted, can be rendered on screen. Since the browser must convert the file from functions to actual pixels, it also let us access a wide variety of methods to either manipulate, or retrieve data from the math. In today’s article, we will explore the function getPointAtLength() and see how we can use the data of an SVG path for creative use cases such as the demo below.

Without the ability to keep secrets, individuals lose the capacity to distinguish themselves from others, to maintain independent lives, to be complete and autonomous persons. This does not mean that a person actually has to keep secrets to be autonomous, just that she must possess the ability to do so. The ability to keep secrets implies the ability to disclose secrets selectively, and so the capacity for selective disclosure at one’s own discretion is important to individual autonomy as well. Secrecy is a form of power. The ability to protect a secret, to preserve one’s privacy, is a form of power. The ability to penetrate secrets, to learn them, to use them, is also a form of power. Secrecy empowers, secrecy protects, secrecy hurts. The ability to learn a person’s secrets without his or her knowledge — to pierce a person’s privacy in secret — is a greater power still. Cell phones are like a drivers license. It is really hard to function in the modern world without one, but they reveal a lot of information about you that you might not want to share.

Technical Analysis for Traders. The trader extension is a free open source stock library based on TA-Lib. It's dedicated to trading software developers requiring to perform technical analysis of financial market data. Alongside many indicators like ADX, MACD, RSI, Stochastic, TRIX the candlestick pattern recognition and several vector arithmetic and algebraic functions are present. Calculations can be done in two modes - TA-Lib and Metastock. Changing it using trader_set_compat() will affect the way some trader functions work. Some trader functions provide different results depending of the "starting point" of the data being involved. This is often referred as a function having memories. An example of such function is the Exponential Moving Average. It is possible to control the unstable period (the amount of data to strip off) using trader_set_unstable_period() function. Extended documentation about indicators, formulas and implementations in other programming languages can be found under » tadoc.org.

I am trying to show that economies follow a relatively sinusoidal growth pattern. I am building a python simulation to show that even when we let some degree of randomness take hold, we can still produce something relatively sinusoidal. I am happy with the data I'm producing, but now I'd like to find some way to get a sine graph that pretty closely matches the data. I know you can do polynomial fit, but can you do sine fit? You can use the least-square optimization function in scipy to fit any arbitrary function to another. In case of fitting a sin function, the 3 parameters to fit are the offset ('a'), amplitude ('b') and the phase ('c').

Bookmarks enable users to collect and organize lists of web pages, so they can easily get back to their favorites. Using the Bookmarks API, your extensions can manipulate bookmarks in much the same way users can. To make use of the Bookmarks API, you need to ask for the "bookmarks" permission in your extension’s manifest.json file: The Bookmarks API lets your extension do the things users can do with bookmarks and includes functions for: To gain an understanding of how to work with the Bookmarks API let’s take a look at the bookmark-it example. This example adds a toolbar icon (browserAction) which, when clicked, adds or removes the current page from bookmarks. If the page is bookmarked (or removed from bookmarks) in some other way, the icon is updated to show the state of the page’s bookmarking.

Two functions are provided, potentially for use with the assert statement: check_argument_types() and check_return_type(). These can be used to implement fine grained type checking for select functions. If the function is called with incompatible types, or check_return_type() is used and the return value does not match the return type annotation, then a TypeError is raised.

A daemon (or service) is a background process that is designed to run autonomously, with little or not user intervention. The Apache web server http daemon (httpd) is one such example of a daemon. It waits in the background listening on specific ports, and serves up pages or processes scripts, based on the type of request. Creating a daemon in Linux uses a specific set of rules in a given order. Knowing how they work will help you understand how daemons operate in userland Linux, but can operate with calls to the kernel also. In fact, a few daemons interface with kernel modules that work with hardware devices, such as external controller boards, printers, and PDAs. They are one of the fundamental building blocks in Linux that give it incredible flexibility and power. Throughout this HOWTO, a very simple daemon will be built in C. As we go along, more code will be added, showing the proper order of execution required to get a daemon up and running.

This section explains how to use the LDAP C API to search the directory and to retrieve entries. LDAP C SDK provides functions that allow you to search a directory and to retrieve results from the server. For example, you can send a search request by calling the synchronous ldap_search_ext_s() function or the asynchronous ldap_search_ext() function and the server sends back matching results.

PHP 5.5+ now comes baked with a password_hash function to generate secure, one-way hashes along with a password_verify function to match a hash with the given password—If you’re a PHP developer, you should always be securely storing user passwords, no excuses. Developers have a huge responsibility when handling and storing user-sensitive information, such as a password. We should take extra precaution and the necessary steps to make sure the user’s data is safe and secure*. *Please keep in mind the following implementation is only part of the problem since it handles the data once the web server receives it; however, it does not address the other issue of securely sending the sensitive data over-the-air from the browser to the server, which is why a valid SSL certificate is necessary.

Rust is a systems programming language that runs blazingly fast, prevents segfaults, and guarantees thread safety. If you haven’t seen Rust at all yet, the first thing you should read is the introduction to the book, The Rust Programming Language. It will give you a good idea of what Rust is like, show you how to install it, and explain its syntax and concepts. Upon completing the book, you’ll be an intermediate Rust developer, and will have a good grasp of the fundamental ideas behind Rust.

Many of users do not use powerful Maxima computer algebra system for systematic work, but for ad hoc algebraic calculations – equations, functions, matrixes, etc. only. To do this job, it is not useful to download the whole application from a web site.

Functions are objects in JavaScript, as you should know by now, if you have read any of the prerequisite articles. And as objects, functions have methods, including the powerful Apply, Call, and Bind methods. On the one hand, Apply and Call are nearly identical and are frequently used in JavaScript for borrowing methods and for setting the this value explicitly. We also use Apply for variable-arity functions; you will learn more about this in a bit.

MySQL has support for full-text indexing and searching. Full-text searching is performed using MATCH() ... AGAINST syntax. MATCH() takes a comma-separated list that names the columns to be searched. AGAINST takes a string to search for, and an optional modifier that indicates what type of search to perform. The search string must be a string value that is constant during query evaluation. This rules out, for example, a table column because that can differ for each row.

Basically, it's a simple tool that helps web designers find lighter and darker colors based on any color. Why is this necessary? Well, that takes a little more explanation. I built 0to255 to make my job easier. I'm a web designer who works with colors every day. Usually, I'll start with a color I want to use, then I'll manipulate it for various functions. For example, I might brighten a link in its hover state or darken a button's border to make it contrast with surrounding elements. Web designers do things like these several times an hour.
