Journeying to South Africa after graduating with a photographic degree, I trained as a safari field guide. Observing, photographing and learning about the local flora and fauna. A truly awesome experience, which fed my passion about the animal world and animal behaviour, leading me to work in the animal care industry, a very important aspect of my life. Having also a great interest in human nature and the relationship we have with the natural world. My aim is to collaborate these interests to create images that not only reflect on human experience but to ponder the world that we find ourselves in. Understanding the world around us and how we connect to ourselves, and to one another can be a deeply therapeutic experience. Through first hand encounters, the written word or imagery, it can give a sense of clarity; From one moment, being amazed with the beautifully uniform textures of a clustered feather moss, to another, feeling saddened having just discovered the lifeless body a collard dove, moved by the way the foliage appears to be cradling its body like a loving mother. Ready for it's energy to be reclaimed by the earth. It's so easy to become disconnected to the world of nature, my wish is to be able to reconnect you with it. The natural world is an intrinsic part of our lives, it's very presence is integral for our survival and our well being.

Bird Flight

Exactly how birds acquired the ability to fly has baffled scientists for years. Archaeopteryx provided a starting point for speculation. Built like a dinosaur, but with wings, scientists guessed at how a hypothetical ancestor might have taken flight. Some scientists support the arboreal hypothesis (e.g., Feduccia 1996) and suggest that the ancestors of Archaeopteryx lived in trees and glided into flapping flight (Figure to the right). But others argue that the claws of Archaeopteryx weren't suited to climbing. So, others support the cursorial hypothesis (e.g., Burgers and Chiappe 1999) and suggest that these ancestors used their long, powerful legs to run fast with their arms outstretched, and were at some point lifted up by air currents and carried into flapping flight.

ALS booth The ALS Association’s booth at the Society for Neuroscience 2004 show Information about progress on ALS proved to be an important highlight of the 2004 meeting of The Society for Neuroscience, including reports by ALSA-funded investigators worldwide. News included gene therapy developments, stem cell research, RNA silencing, and evidence for processes underlying ALS that could point the way to new therapies. The 25,000 scientists gathered in San Diego learned about ALS by choosing among two slide sessions and several different poster sessions detailing the many different approaches underway in ALS research. Several ALSA-funded investigators notably reported on tests with a variety of compounds in animals, emphasizing ALSA’s efforts in translational research. The amount of research presented on ALS after a decade of focused attention translated into a sizeable chunk of the meeting. ALSA’s science director Lucie Bruijn, Ph.D., said, “It is encouraging to see so many invest

The moment a brave mouse tried to rescue his friend from the jaws of a giant snake by jumping on its head... but failed. By Helen Collis. When two small white mice are dropped into a snake enclosure at a Chinese zoo, it's sad - but predictable - what will eventually happen. But what spectators weren't expecting was a surprise counter attack from one of the fury underdogs. OH MY GOSH... I didn't expect this beautiful girl to be so big !!! This is Laska a gray/white Fluffy Alaskan Malamute. She is Big, Beautiful, Wooly, Sweet and looks so fluffy and soft you just want to squeeze her just like you would a big Teddy Bear. When you see her you there is no mistaken she sticks out of the crowd with that big beautiful coat. Laska is super friendly to everyone here and that is dogs and humans. Has that super sweet temperament just like her mom Ruby. Her dad is Strykker... Did we expect anything less from these two wonderful dogs to have such a great looking girl. Ruby is a foundation dog here at Hudson's and as you can see with Laska she has nothing but the Biggest and Best Puppies anywhere. Laska's half siblings include Cinder, Cinnabar & Kami.
