City Sailing is owned by Paul Bew an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner of Power Sail and Ocean and holds a Class Four Masters Certificate. He has Thirty years of instructional experience. Paul has won RORC race medals and won a Tall Ships trans-Atlantic race as Skipper. He has worked in two national sailing centres as an instructor and was a full-time skipper for the Ocean Youth Club (now Trust) for six seasons with trips as far as Australia, Azores, St Kilda and Iceland as well as three transatlantic crossings. He has also served a term as a director of the RYA for three years. Paul is a regular RYA Dinghy Senior Instructor in London and skippers for the Majestic Line on the West Coast of Scotland as well as examining for the RYA all over the world. He has owned and raced Sigma 38 Yachts and skippered them in Cork Week, and the RORC Fastnet Race. Paul now wants to share his sailing with you. The Swede 55 was conceived in 1975 by naval architect Knud Reimers of Denmark. He is best known for his design of square meter class yachts and the Udell International. The Swede 55 was a stock design and to this day remains a very popular boat. The Swede 55 was built by Fiskastra Varb shipyard. Upon request of some of Stockholms KSSS members, Reimers designed the Swede 55 as a cruising ocean racing square meter yacht. The Swede 55’s design has an elevated freeboard, a comfortable center-cockpit, a nominal sail area of 55 square meters and additional volume below deck. She was inspired by Rolly Taskers “Siska”, a Knud Reimers 40 square meter boat modified for the Sydney-Hobart Race. The Swede 55 is a nimble, fast and exceptional performing sailing yacht; capable of handling rough seas and keeping her crew safe and comfortable. The boat was built to very high standards as an easily managed yacht. Whether cruising, racing or offshore pursuits, the Swede 55 is powered by a modest sail plan, easily managed by a shorthanded crew, yet offers a full cruising interior with practical accommodations. During this owners ownership, numerous upgrades have been made to her sail inventory, canvas, electronics, wiring, and overall appearance.

Journeying to South Africa after graduating with a photographic degree, I trained as a safari field guide. Observing, photographing and learning about the local flora and fauna. A truly awesome experience, which fed my passion about the animal world and animal behaviour, leading me to work in the animal care industry, a very important aspect of my life. Having also a great interest in human nature and the relationship we have with the natural world. My aim is to collaborate these interests to create images that not only reflect on human experience but to ponder the world that we find ourselves in. Understanding the world around us and how we connect to ourselves, and to one another can be a deeply therapeutic experience. Through first hand encounters, the written word or imagery, it can give a sense of clarity; From one moment, being amazed with the beautifully uniform textures of a clustered feather moss, to another, feeling saddened having just discovered the lifeless body a collard dove, moved by the way the foliage appears to be cradling its body like a loving mother. Ready for it's energy to be reclaimed by the earth. It's so easy to become disconnected to the world of nature, my wish is to be able to reconnect you with it. The natural world is an intrinsic part of our lives, it's very presence is integral for our survival and our well being.

Dock Assembly Guides and Plans - Dock Edge+

The Dock Edge hardware system is designed for use with 1-1/2″ thick lumber (minimum width 6″). All hardware is mounted with carriage bolts. Always use backer plates or other piece of hardware when bolting through wood along with lock washers. This will eliminate the bolt pulling into or through the wood. This will allow the nuts to become loose and fall off. Proper chaining of a dock is critical. Use proper dock anchors (min 250lbs per anchor) and cross chains. If there is no water fluctuation chains may be pulled taut by having a few people stand on the corner while you tighten chain. Use a piano hinge or other arrangement for decking boards over anchor chain corners for easy access for adjustment.

There’s a Rocna or Vulcan anchor to suit just about any vessel – including larger sizes not featured here. To choose the correctly sized Rocna or Vulcan anchor for your boat, follow the chart and instructions. To choose the correctly sized Rocna or Vulcan anchor, find your vessel’s length from the column on the left, then track across that row until you find the first column with a displacement (in tonnes) the same or larger than the displacement of your vessel. The top of the column with the selected displacement indicates the recommended Rocna or Vulcan anchor. Use the tabs to navigate between Metric Tonnes, Short Tonnes, and Pounds. Unlike other manufacturers, our anchor sizing recommendations are intended to provide an anchor adequate for use in most all conditions. We base our calculations on 50 knots of wind, associated surge, and poor holding bottoms. Skippering a yacht for the first time will be a most memorable experience. The Day Skipper practical course is designed to teach you how to safely and confidently "Take Charge" of the yacht. A skipper’s task is not only to navigate. They are responsible for the complete safety and wellbeing of the yacht and it’s crew. Weather forecasting, victualling, engine maintenance, sail selection and handling, passage planning, watch keeping, navigation and pilotage are all included in these responsibilities. You will also be called upon to direct meals and delegate housekeeping duties on board. These skills will be taught and put into practice whilst acting as skipper on short passages. For the duration of the course you will live aboard the yacht and visit many of the beautiful harbours and anchorages to practice pilotage techniques and the essential skills of boat handling.

Today the 4th of September, Youtify, the world's leading web music player with built in crowdfunding, announces a complete redesign that is available from today on. This new version also integrates Last.fm to give users the ability to scrobble and get recommendations. I am very happy with our new design, says Karl Tannergård one of the co-founders of Youtify. We have been working on making it easier to navigate and be visually appealing for our users. In Youtify v15, the new design gives more space to the video and playlists. Since the new icon set is font-based, Youtify scales up beautifully when increasing the browser's font size. This is useful for running Youtify on a big screen.
