Studio Ma |Tatami Room London

Saved by uncleflo on April 25th, 2026.

is the emptiness or interval between physical objects, as seen in Japanese painting, ikebana, and architectural design. This "empty" space allows the important elements to stand out and the composition to breathe. In traditional theater, music, and human interactions, ma is the interval—a deliberate silence or pause—that shapes rhythm and emotional response. Ma is not simply a void or lack, but the relational space that connects and balances everything. It is as much about what is not present as what is. This balance generates beauty, harmony, and possibility. Ma is sometimes described as “an emptiness full of possibilities, like a promise yet to be fulfilled,” and “the silence between the notes which make the music”. Ma isn't just about physical space, but also about giving time, energy, and room to grow, think, and create. For us, it shapes and guides our practice as it allows for true connection to grow between people. It guides the rhythm and flow where each gesture and each pause becomes an act of mutual creation. Ma also captures our intention to carry forward the focus on traditional styles while also expanding the space’s creative horizons. Our vision is to offer classes and workshops in a variety of styles, energies, and approaches — as well as providing space for complementary practices that enrich learning, broaden expression, and nurture creativity.

A New Approach to 3D Printing a Yacht Hull Mold

http://blog.thermwood.com/en-us/a-new-approach-to-3d-printing-a-yacht-hull-mold

Saved by uncleflo on February 13th, 2022.

Thermwood recently printed several sections from a 51 foot long yacht hull mold to demonstrate how only a single mold may be needed for the manufacture of larger vessels, such as yachts. The printed sections of this test mold are made of carbon fiber reinforced ABS from Techmer PM. ABS was chosen because of its physical properties and relatively low cost compared to other reinforced thermoplastics. Thermwood has already 3D printed a full size pleasure boat master pattern which has been used to produce multiple production boat hull molds. While this demonstrated the value of additive manufacturing small boat tooling, much larger vessels, yachts for example, require a different approach. In these instances, since only a single mold is needed, it is desirable to print the mold itself rather than print a plug or pattern from which multiple production molds can be made. To demonstrate to the industry how this might work, Thermwood printed a 10 foot section from a 51 foot long yacht hull mold. This rather unique mold design was specifically developed for additive manufacturing. It is printed in sections, each about five foot tall. These printed sections are then bound together both chemically and mechanically using high strength polymer cables into two mold halves. The two mold halves then bolt together to form a complete female mold for the yacht hull.

Clemens Mock – interdisciplinary art and spatial design

https://clemensmock.net/en/

Saved by uncleflo on February 6th, 2022.

An essential part of my work is the occupation with spatial situations within physical space and digital media. I concern myself with terms of interdisciplinary art and experimental space. My knowledge is based on research of perception and narration in space. I work on projects both individually and in groups. Either architecture itself is the focus or the interaction with people is central. Subjects of public space, migration, temporary use and fictional space are negotiated. A humorous view and a technical approach about the interplay of humans, their perception and architecture results in different forms of expression: installation, photography, documentary time-lapse, 3D-print and modular construction. I am a member of the ‘Oberösterreichischer Kunstverein’, chairman of ‘Offene Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst’ and part of the collective ‘Salon Franziska’.

Our Custom Yacht Design Process - Kasten Marine Design

Saved by uncleflo on May 11th, 2021.

The following article is a summary of how a new custom yacht design is imagined, sketched and drawn. In addition to the following notes, our Introduction web page provides an outline of our general approach to yacht design. While seemingly complex, the design process is made up of a series of incremental steps, much like the building process itself. The goal of undertaking the design of any new yacht is to take a unique set of owner requirements and to turn them into the best possible solution to those requests. If the resulting design is to be what it should be, each of the steps outlined below must be addressed thoroughly. There is first the idea, and then the bringing forth of the idea into a functioning reality. In order to get the relevant information on the table, two primary ingredients are necessary:

Go for the cheapest and hope you don't need to claim, or go for the most expensive because that must be the best? Or take a more logical approach with our handy checklist. Here are some issues to consider when comparing policies. If an accident happens because a worn out part fails, is the part excluded or is the claim rejected? If there is a No Claims Bonus, is it protected at its maximum? If you have a claim, what is the effect on NCB in the following year? Do the insurers need a condition survey? If not, and your boat is more than say, 10 years old, why not? Is the policy an Agreed Fixed Value policy?
If a ‘New for Old’ deduction can be applied, does it apply to parts and materials only, or to all costs including labour costs?

Setting Up Your Own Airstrip - FlyingLessons.co.uk - UK

Saved by uncleflo on January 31st, 2019.

In addition to the UK’s civil and military aerodromes, there are hundreds of smaller, grass airfields set up by private individuals (termed ‘farm strips’). If you own suitable land, it’s possible to set up your own – of course, planning restrictions and practical considerations apply. We outline some of them here. Naturally, we suggest you obtain professional advice before flying from your land – however, if you do own a suitable portion of real estate, you can operate your aircraft from it for up to 28 days per year without planning permission, providing it’s safe to do. If the usage exceeds that, then you’ll need to apply to your Local Authority for change of use permission. Airfields operating under the 28 day rule are classified as ‘unlicensed fields’. This isn’t to say they’re illegal, but rather that they haven’t been subject to a Civil Aviation Authority survey; which quantifies and assesses approach obstacles, runway surfaces & length, and so forth. Your farm strips is therefore likely to be more challenging to fly in and out of – but, as most farm strip flyers will tell you, therein lies the challenge!

Waterfall model - Wikipedia

Saved by uncleflo on January 18th, 2019.

The waterfall model is a relatively linear sequential design approach for certain areas of engineering design. In software development, it tends to be among the less iterative and flexible approaches, as progress flows in largely one direction ("downwards" like a waterfall) through the phases of conception, initiation, analysis, design, construction, testing, deployment and maintenance. The waterfall development model originated in the manufacturing and construction industries; where the highly structured physical environments meant that design changes became prohibitively expensive much sooner in the development process. When first adopted for software development, there were no recognized alternatives for knowledge-based creative work.

How to Test Your Lens | B&H Explora

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

So, you just bought a shiny, new, and maybe expensive, lens for your camera, and being the savvy consumer, you did your homework. You pored over customer reviews on the B&H Photo website, read online reviews splattered all over the Internet, grabbed a copy of every photo magazine that reviewed the lens, bookmarked dozens of websites, and now have the lens’s MTF curve charts burned into your retinas. Now, your lens is here and it is time to go out shooting. Honestly, not a problem. Your lens should be as good as it can be and, as photographers, we want to take photos. So, stop reading and go out and make some photographs! Still here? OK, let me tell you why you might want to test that lens yourself. The main reason is that even with today's precision computer-controlled manufacturing techniques, there are variations in each and every lens that rolls off an assembly line. This means that some examples will be better than others. Some lenses will be outstanding and others will make you wonder if all of those glowing reviews you read online were completely bogus.

2 Sentiment analysis with tidy data | Text Mining with R

https://www.tidytextmining.com/sentiment.html

Saved by uncleflo on December 23rd, 2018.

In the previous chapter, we explored in depth what we mean by the tidy text format and showed how this format can be used to approach questions about word frequency. This allowed us to analyze which words are used most frequently in documents and to compare documents, but now let’s investigate a different topic. Let’s address the topic of opinion mining or sentiment analysis. When human readers approach a text, we use our understanding of the emotional intent of words to infer whether a section of text is positive or negative, or perhaps characterized by some other more nuanced emotion like surprise or disgust. We can use the tools of text mining to approach the emotional content of text programmatically, as shown in Figure 2.1.

Term Frequency and Inverse Document Frequency (tf-idf) Using Tidy Data Principles

https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/tidytext/vignettes/tf_idf.html

Saved by uncleflo on December 23rd, 2018.

A central question in text mining and natural language processing is how to quantify what a document is about. Can we do this by looking at the words that make up the document? One measure of how important a word may be is its term frequency (tf), how frequently a word occurs in a document. There are words in a document, however, that occur many times but may not be important; in English, these are probably words like “the”, “is”, “of”, and so forth. We might take the approach of adding words like these to a list of stop words and removing them before analysis, but it is possible that some of these words might be more important in some documents than others. A list of stop words is not a sophisticated approach to adjusting term frequency for commonly used words. Another approach is to look at a term’s inverse document frequency (idf), which decreases the weight for commonly used words and increases the weight for words that are not used very much in a collection of documents. This can be combined with term frequency to calculate a term’s tf-idf, the frequency of a term adjusted for how rarely it is used. It is intended to measure how important a word is to a document in a collection (or corpus) of documents. It is a rule-of-thumb or heuristic quantity; while it has proved useful in text mining, search engines, etc., its theoretical foundations are considered less than firm by information theory experts.

In the last few years Robot integrator T&D in collaboration with a leading supplier of natural stone, Marmi e Graniti d'Italia (MGI), has applied its technology and innovation for applications in the stone industry. One of the latest frontiers in the field is definitely the interaction between ABB robots and natural stone. Using the creation of a replica of artist Amedeo Modigliani's infamous "HEAD" sculpture in white granite, T&D explored the application of a robotic milling system to evaluate whether industrial robots are capable of the demands and challenges that processing stone requires. The results of the experiment surpassed all expectations offering a quality of cut comparable to CNC machinery. The possibility of perfecting the approach, integrating milling and polishing, is currently being explored in collaboration with ABB integrator T&D Robotics.

Through innovative design and engineering, our yachts are carefully crafted for comfort, safety and performance. Shuttleworth Design is a multi-award winning design consultancy that has been working with an international client base at the forefront of yacht design, engineering and naval architecture for more than 35 years. Shuttleworth Design grew out of John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs Ltd, a company founded by John Shuttleworth in 1980 to develop the knowledge of multihull design and engineering. John was one of the first yacht designers to develop the idea of "integrated design", a way of approaching the engineering and overall design as an integrated whole rather than a series of parts joined together. John also pioneered the use of computer aided design in multihulls and has always been a believer in research and development, often conducting tank tests and radio controlled model tests. This innovative approach resulted in boats that were lighter, stiffer, and stronger than any previous multihull designs, and put John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs firmly in the forefront of the field. John then successfully transferred this knowledge to cruising designs, an area that is under continual development. His designs have many ocean crossings behind them and Zeepoes (a 63 ft cruising catamaran) has completed two around the world voyages.
