Our goal is to create long lasting business relationships. Despite the fact that most of our clients want to stay anonymous, we managed to get a few testimonials.

Deluges web client is the only client I use, but I wanted to access it via my own web server. This small Howto shows how I got it to work. This has only been tested with Apache 2.2 and Deluge 1.0.0.

Deluge is a new BitTorrent client, created using Python and GTK+. It is intended to bring a native, full-featured client to Linux GTK+ desktop environments such as GNOME and XFCE. It supports features such as DHT (Distributed Hash Tables), PEX (µTorrent-compatible Peer Exchange), and UPnP (Universal Plug-n-Play) that allow one to more easily share BitTorrent data even from behind a router with virtually zero configuration of port-forwarding.

Deluge is a full-featured BitTorrent client for Linux, OS X, Unix and Windows. It uses libtorrent in its backend and features multiple user-interfaces including: GTK+, web and console. It has been designed using the client server model with a daemon process that handles all the bittorrent activity. The Deluge daemon is able to run on headless machines with the user-interfaces being able to connect remotely from any platform. Deluge features a rich plugin collection; in fact, most of Deluge's functionality is available in the form of plugins. Deluge was created with the intention of being lightweight and unobtrusive. It is our belief that downloading shouldn't be the primary task on your computer and therefore shouldn't monopolize system resources. Deluge is not designed for any one desktop environment and will work just fine in GNOME, KDE, XFCE and others. We do our best to adhere to the freedesktop standards. Deluge is Free Software and is licensed under the GNU.

Torrents are great, they are the best way to share large files with your friends, or even with people you don’t know at all. But surprisingly enough, not many people create torrents when they need to share something. I have “a lot of” friends who know how to download torrents, but when they need to send me their latest 200MB vacation picture collection, they ask me to “get on msn”. It’s not that I have anything against msn (although the file transfer sucks), but why don’t just use BitTorrent? Especially if you want to send something to more than one person, or if you want to share high quality HDTV files, because then you can share the bandwidth.

As luck would have it when I went to http://www.utorrent.com/ , to get the latest client, they had announced the release of uTorrent WebUI on public beta. This was great news, the remote administration angle looked like it was sorted. What next? Okay, so if I could just get uTorrent running as a Windows Service on my machine that would do!! With a bit more digging, and downloading The Windows 2003 Resource Kit I found the solution. Using two of the tools that I had downloaded you can configure pretty much anything to run as a Windows Service. See Part 2 of this article to find out how. You don't need Windows 2003 Server you can do this on XP, so keep reading. I'll walk you through configuring this, starting with uTorrent WebUI.
