GitHub - mdn/webextensions-examples: Example Firefox add-ons created using the WebExtensions API

https://github.com/mdn/webextensions-examples

Saved by uncleflo on April 17th, 2021.

Example Firefox add-ons created using the WebExtensions API WebExtensions are a way to write browser extensions: that is, programs installed inside a web browser that modify the behavior of the browser or web pages loaded by the browser. WebExtensions are built on a set of cross-browser APIs, so WebExtensions written for Google Chrome, Opera, or Edge will, in most cases, run in Firefox too.

Work with the Bookmarks API - Mozilla | MDN

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/Work_with_the_Bookmarks_API

Saved by uncleflo on April 17th, 2021.

Bookmarks enable users to collect and organize lists of web pages, so they can easily get back to their favorites. Using the Bookmarks API, your extensions can manipulate bookmarks in much the same way users can. To make use of the Bookmarks API, you need to ask for the "bookmarks" permission in your extension’s manifest.json file: The Bookmarks API lets your extension do the things users can do with bookmarks and includes functions for: To gain an understanding of how to work with the Bookmarks API let’s take a look at the bookmark-it example. This example adds a toolbar icon (browserAction) which, when clicked, adds or removes the current page from bookmarks. If the page is bookmarked (or removed from bookmarks) in some other way, the icon is updated to show the state of the page’s bookmarking.

Session History Scrounger for Firefox (with lz4 support) — Fx File Utilities

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html

Saved by uncleflo on April 10th, 2021.

Firefox creates various session history files as you browse, and then at shutdown creates sessionstore.jsonlz4. In Firefox 56+, the files are compressed using Mozilla's flavor of LZ4 compression (.jsonlz4 or .baklz4 file extension). The JSON data contains rich detail about your session, but this page is targeted toward extracting just the page URLs. Drag and drop one session history file onto the empty text box (HELP), or use the Browse... button on the right. This file is not sent to the network, it is only read within this page in Firefox. This tool can read URLs out of the following types of session history files:

Stackoverflow - offsetTop vs. jQuery.offset().top

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6777506/offsettop-vs-jquery-offset-top

Saved by uncleflo on May 9th, 2018.

I have read that offsetLeft and offsetTop do not work properly in all browsers. jQuery.offset() is supposed to provide an abstraction for this to provide the correct value xbrowser. What I am trying to do is get the coordinates of where an element was clicked relative to the top-left of the element. Problem is that jQuery.offset().top is actually giving me a decimal value in FFX 3.6 (in IE and Chrome, the two values match). http://jsfiddle.net/htCPp/ exhibits the issue. If you click the bottom image, jQuery.offset().top returns 327.5, but offsetTop returns 328. I would like to think that offset() is returning the correct value and I should use it because it will work across browsers. However, people obviously cannot click decimals of pixels. Is the proper way to determine the true offset to Math.Round() the offset that jQuery is returning? Should I use offsetTop instead, or some other method entirely?

How to Recover Your Firefox Session When All Hope is Lost - TechRant

Last week my house had some electrical issues, and our landlord came round to take a look at things. During this time, my computer got turned off without warning when a fuse was removed. It recovered fine, but next time I went to shut down in a hurry, Firefox was hanging around, and I wanted it dead. I chose to kill it and shut down—a mistake I would soon regret.

This article explains how to copy the files to a new profile, lists important files in the profile and describes what information is stored in these files. If you are having a problem with Firefox then sometimes, rather than trying to find and fix the exact cause of the problem, it is easier just to make a new Firefox profile and copy your most important data over to it. The Reset Firefox feature will do this for you automatically.

Saved by uncleflo on September 5th, 2013.

HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox and Chrome extension that encrypts your communications with many major websites, making your browsing more secure. Encrypt the web: Install HTTPS Everywhere today. HTTPS Everywhere is produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by using a clever technology to rewrite requests to these sites to HTTPS.

IPDL Tutorial - MDC Docs

Saved by uncleflo on June 6th, 2011.

IPDL, short for "Inter-process-communication Protocol Definition Language", is a Mozilla-specific language allowing C++ code to pass messages between processes or threads in an organized and secure way. All messages for multi-process plugins and tabs in Firefox are declared in the IPDL language. All IPDL messages are sent between parent and a child end points, called actors. An IPDL protocol declares how actors communicate: it declares the possible messages that may be sent between actors, as well as a state machine describing when messages are allowed to be sent.

Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins#Disabling_crash_protection

Saved by uncleflo on March 10th, 2011.

Starting in Firefox 3.6.4 on Windows and Linux, a new crash protection feature isolates certain plugins from the browser process and sets those plugins to each run in a separate plugin-container process. Before this new "out-of-process plugins" ("OOPP") crash protection feature, a problem with a plugin (e.g, Adobe Flash) would often cause the entire Firefox browser to crash. When an "out-of-process plugin" stops working, Firefox can remain running and just the portions of a webpage that need the plugin will be disabled (i.e., missing the plugin content). In Firefox 3.6 releases since Firefox 3.6.4, the crash protection feature that sets plugins to run in a separate process is enabled for specified plugins only. By default, the plugins enabled to run "out-of-process" are the NPAPI test plugin, Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime (Windows) and Microsoft Silverlight (Windows).
