FIN connects you to financial institutions, corporates and market infrastructures. FIN enables financial institutions to exchange individual structured (MT and ISO 15022 message formats) financial messages securely and reliably. FIN is used by over 10,800 financial institutions and their corporate customers worldwide to exchange over 22.3+ million messages per day across a wide range of business areas within the banking and securities industries. FIN value-added processing includes: Message validation to ensure messages are formatted according to SWIFT message standards. Delivery monitoring and prioritisation. Message storage and retrieval. It is based on a distributed processing architecture with full, built-in redundancy to ensure maximum availability.

Gérald Oster is an Associate Professor at TELECOM Nancy, University of Lorraine since 2006. He is a member of the Inria Coast project-team. He has an expertise in distributed collaborative systems with a focus on content replication mechanisms and their applicability. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Nancy University in 2005. During his Ph.D., he worked on verification of correctness of a family of optimistic replication mechanisms (operational transformation) dedicated to collaborative editing. He proposed a framework based on an automated theorem prover and several sets of verified transformation functions for multiple data types. He worked on the design and the implementation of a universal file synchronizer. He is one of the pioneers of the CRDT approach as he participated in the design of the WOOT algorithm that initiated researches on these distinctive data structures. He is currently investigating the limitations and the applicability in diverse domains of these novel replicated data structures. Gérald is or was involved in several research projects and participated in several technologies transfer-oriented projects.

The typical example of a transaction involves Alice and Bob, and their bank. Alice pays Bob $100, and the bank needs to debit Alice and credit Bob. Easy enough, provided the server doesn't crash. But what happens if the bank debits Alice, and then before crediting Bob, the server goes down? Or what if they credit Bob first, and then try to debit Alice only to find she doesn't have enough funds? A transaction allows the debit and credit operations to happen as a package ("atomically" is the word commonly used), so either both operations happen or neither happens, even if the server crashes halfway through the transaction. That way the bank never credits Bob without debiting Alice, or vice versa.

The Apache Cassandra database is the right choice when you need scalability and high availability without compromising performance. Linear scalability and proven fault-tolerance on commodity hardware or cloud infrastructure make it the perfect platform for mission-critical data.Cassandra's support for replicating across multiple datacenters is best-in-class, providing lower latency for your users and the peace of mind of knowing that you can survive regional outages.

In computer networking and databases, the three-phase commit protocol (3PC)[1] is a distributed algorithm which lets all nodes in a distributed system agree to commit a transaction. Unlike the two-phase commit protocol (2PC) however, 3PC is non-blocking. Specifically, 3PC places an upper bound on the amount of time required before a transaction either commits or aborts. This property ensures that if a given transaction is attempting to commit via 3PC and holds some resource locks, it will release the locks after the timeout.

Bitcoin FoundationMembers of the Bitcoin Foundation a lobby group in support of the virtual currency spent time with Federal regulators yesterday. They had a meeting with the FBI, Federal Reserve, IRS officials and the Treasury Department. There has been a push to crack down on the the virtual currency, but there this meeting shows signs that the government may be starting to realize that Bitcoin is not going anywhere.

In the development of distributed security sensor networks a large variety of prototype systems have been implemented and tested. However these systems tend to be developer specific and require substantial overhead in demonstrating more than one application. To bridge the gap between embedded, networked systems and desktop simulation environments, systems are necessary which are easily deployable and allow extended operation of distributed sensor networks, while allowing the flexibility to quickly test and evaluate a variety of operational algorithms. To enable fast optimization by leveraging the widest development community, open standards for such a portable development system are desired.

In this book, the authors discuss the technological developments lead by sensor technology, addressing viable new applications to inspire a technological evolution. Under the advanced and visionary approach of distributed intelligence, the authors focus on three distinct but tightly inter-related areas of developments for distributed sensing systems (DSS): firstly, the sensor technology embracing the conversion of the phenomena of interest into desirable form of signal such as electric, secondly, the interaction process between sensing points which requires immense intelligence loosely called networking, and finally, the adoption of useful maturing systems through potential applications for right impacts for a better life and a brighter economy.

DDOS, short for Distributed Denial of Service, is a type of DOS attack where multiple compromised systems -- which are usually infected with a Trojan -- are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Victims of a DDoS attack consist of both the end targeted system and all systems maliciously used and controlled by the hacker in the distributed attack. According to this report on eSecurityPlanet, in a DDoS attack, the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources – potentially hundreds of thousands or more. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single IP address; plus, it is very difficult to distinguish legitimate user traffic from attack traffic when spread across so many points of origin.

Free & open source, high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load. Memcached is an in-memory key-value store for small chunks of arbitrary data (strings, objects) from results of database calls, API calls, or page rendering. Memcached is simple yet powerful. Its simple design promotes quick deployment, ease of development, and solves many problems facing large data caches. Its API is available for most popular languages.

By Brian - TipsFor.us, on March 20th, 2009, posted this in Software, Windows. Here’s the situation: my wife owns an iPod Nano. I own a Sandisk Fuze. We BOTH would like to access and share the SAME music library. Furthermore, we use different computers but don’t want to waste storage space by duplicating all the songs. In other words, I want to be able to rip a CD on MY computer and have it show up in HER music library (and vice versa). Is this possible?
