Since Corrientes opened its doors in the year 2000, its founders, Mina and Giraldo have developed a club which captures the atmosphere of traditional milongas mixed with more avant garde tango tendencies from Buenos Aires. The club has been visited by important tango artists: musicians, dancers and teachers. such as the casts of TangoXDos and Tango Pasion, Miguel and Osvaldo Zotto, Lorena Ermocida, Pablo Veron, Mora Godoy, Natalia Games and Gabriel Angio and many other great artists from Nuevo tango and traditional tango including several milongueros from 'La Guardia Vieja'.The main thrust of Corrientes Social Club is to educate and delight UK audiences on the wonders of tango dance from Argentina.

Swing is so many things but for the context of this website, it is the umbrella word of what we think are the most amazing dances in the world. Yes we acknowledge our bias! :)
You can look up Wikipedia or Google and get lots of definitions of swing. It will be mainly called be a musical genre which of course is completely correct. It is known as ” being from the 1930s and 40s” but today a great revival has occurred featuring modern day musicians and dancers. Swing is truly back with a vengeance.

I am happy to announce that AlivePDF 0.1.5 is getting better and better. More than font embedding support which is working now, I have just uploaded on the SVN the latest version with gradients (not 100% complete) and barcode support. Apart from that, some important code cleaning and refactoring has been done, some new API's have been introduced like setStartingPage, or even addEPSImage to embed Adobe Illustrator files on a page. I tried to address all the bugs you guys posted on the google code issue page (thanks everybody for taking the time to post bugs!). Some of them may not fixed yet, but I am happy to say that the most recurrent ones have been addressed. I will post in the following days some details about the new API's, examples, demo application, to show you how to use the latest API's especially for font embedding. Next on the list is SWF embedding support and the famous alpha images support, which I have time now to focus on. Stay tuned, there is even more coming.

I had my first experience with Argentine Tango in 1998. I was in a club in Brixton having a salsa lesson and when it was over I wandered around the club to see what was happening in the other rooms. I heard some beautiful music coming from one of the rooms and watched people dancing in a way I had never seen before. I was mesmerised and asked if I could just sit and watch for a while. Most of the classes were in North London at the time and I had young children, which didn’t make things very convenient. So I waited. I had my first Argentine Tango Lesson in 2004 and have been dancing ever since. For the first 3 years, I had been out dancing about 5 nights a week, had masses of lessons, and acquired a lovely collection of Tango music. I was fairly obsessed with Argentine Tango. I have been to nearly every venue, and I have come across nearly every resident teacher.

Debbie Moore founded the internationally renowned Pineapple Dance Studios in the location of an old pineapple warehouse in Covent Garden, central London, in 1979. The philosophy behind the creation of Pineapple Dance Studios was to break down the elitist barriers surrounding dance, and make it available to everyone, from the absolute beginner to the advanced and professional dancer. Pineapple offers more classes and the widest variety of dance styles than any other studio in Europe. There are nearly 40 different varieties to choose from, ranging from classical ballet to street jazz, hip hop to salsa, Egyptian dance to Bollywood grooves plus many more. We teach over 200 classes a week to over 3,500 members, at all levels and to all ages (from dancers who are 4 years of age to those in their 80s). Many of the teachers at Pineapple offer private dance lessons for those who prefer one-to-one tuition, either as a taster lesson, with a group of friends, or for longer periods.

Sinds januari 2000 komt Salsa.nl maandelijks uit met de gedrukte agenda met uitgaanstips op het gebied van latin muziek en dans. Via de site www.salsa.nl maken wij eveneens vermelding van de honderden uitgaanstips die er maandelijks zijn op het gebied van Latijns-Amerikaanse feesten, concerten, festivals, theateroptredens, etc. Sinds februari 2009 hebben zouk en overige Brazilliaanse activiteiten een eigen pagina. Hierdoor is het nog gemakkelijker om jouw favoriete party te vinden.

De lessen worden gegeven in een ruime danszaal, met spiegelwanden, sfeervolle belichting en een prettige dansvloer. Na de les kun je een drankje drinken in de gezellige lounge bar. Extremos was founded in 1999 by Ivan Poschi. After taking classes at dansschool Borincuba with Cacho Santos and Dansschool Club Asi with Marlon & Annetje Castillo, Ivan started teaching salsa at cafe Madeliefje - owned by Mo Sahib (Salsa Lounge). Within a few months Madeliefje became too small for the number of people who wanted to learn salsa with Ivan. After a short period there was a need to find an alternative location, which was found at Akhnaton near Amsterdam Central Station. In 2002 Extremos was contacted by Cantinero, a soon to be opened salsa-club/restaurant in the middle of the Pijp. A decision was quickly made to join forces with Cantinero. This proved to be a great formula, since Extremos now teaches around 35 classes on a weekly basis at Cantinero. Every weekend Cantinero is the hottest SalsaClub in town. Hundreds of people gather to have fun every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Although the society is associated with the University of Bristol, we welcome individuals from all over Bristol. Due to heightened security at the union over the past couple of years, you will now need a student card from either the NUS or an independent university/college to gain entry into the building. Alternatively, you may become an associate member of the union by downloading a form here and returning it the the union - this costs £12 a year or £36 for lifetime membership.
