The Rope Jam Studio was created to provide a safe, inspiring space for Londoners to connect, learn, and practice the Japanese art of Kinbaku. The Rope Jam Studio has been carefully designed according to Feng Shui principles, creating a space where energy flows with intention, clarity, and presence. It is a sanctuary for Kinbaku–Shibari practitioners of every level, offering daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly workshops and courses. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, Rope Jam provides a space to begin your journey, refine your craft, and deepen your understanding of rope. We also offer private lessons for individuals, couples, and small groups, and are currently expanding our offerings to include holistic 1:1 rope experiences and therapeutic sessions that integrate embodiment, mindfulness, and connection. Tiger Nawa – Matteo’s journey with rope began in early childhood as a sailor, long before he entered the world of Japanese rope arts. His formal study of Traditional Kinbaku traces its lineage from the martial discipline of Hojojutsu and the aesthetics of Kabuki theatre, through the Japanese Kinbaku scene shaped by masters such as Osada Eikichi, Yukimura Haruki, Osada Steve, Nureki Chimuo, and Kazami Ranki, Akechi Denki. From this rich lineage, Matteo developed Tiger Nawa Ryū: a unique style blending Aibu and Seme Nawa, a form he calls Romantic Seme Nawa. It is a holistic and innovative approach rooted in mindfulness, presence, creativity, and deep relational awareness. Beyond ropes, Matteo is an artist, filmmaker, yoga teacher, and sound healer with over two decades of multidisciplinary experience, all of which inform the depth and sensitivity of his rope work.

Ma is sometimes described as “an emptiness full of possibilities, like a promise yet to be fulfilled,” and “the silence between the notes which make the music”. Ma isn't just about physical space, but also about giving time, energy, and room to grow, think, and create. For us, it shapes and guides our practice as it allows for true connection to grow between people. It guides the rhythm and flow where each gesture and each pause becomes an act of mutual creation. Ma also captures our intention to carry forward the focus on traditional styles while also expanding the space’s creative horizons. Our vision is to offer classes and workshops in a variety of styles, energies, and approaches — as well as providing space for complementary practices that enrich learning, broaden expression, and nurture creativity.

Travelling around London is a little harder today. With a tube strike on, the roads are clogged with traffic jams, and the pavements are full of stressed and late commuters. How did we cope before roads and railways? Is there another network, criss-crossing through the capital? Well, yes, there’s always the waterways. Sadly, unlike Venice, London doesn’t use this network for most commutes these days (the towpaths are typically more popular than the waterways themselves), although a few more people than normal will be trying out the Thames Clipper boats today.
