There is a myth that making clothing in the UK is much more expensive than manufacturing overseas. We’d like to dispel that myth and show you why that’s not the case, even on simple products such as T-shirts. Let’s first start by looking at all of the different costs associated with making a good quality, branded T-shirt that retails for £25. The average manufacturing cost for that T-shirt in the Far East, making a small quantity of a few hundred pieces, is around £4.24*. That price includes the fabric, cutting and stitching of the garment, labelling, pressing and packing, and the factory overhead and margin. The same T-shirt made in the UK is around £8.85. It’s seems like it’s more than double, but hear us out! When clothing is made overseas there are several other costs that need to be taken into account before that product is ready to hit the shop floor. Shipping and duty can be as much as £1.75 on a simple T-shirt, depending on the size of the order. And if the brand is buying through an agent they will take their cut too. So now you get to a more likely cost of £7 for the Far Eastern-made T-shirt, compared to the £8.85 for the British one. But it doesn’t stop there. Retailers traditionally work on a profit margin of around 60% on a branded item when they sell it in their stores. A simple way to work that out is roughly double the wholesale cost plus VAT. The problem is that retailers have to take into account the fact that not all of the product that they buy sells at full price.

We've finally done it: Fstoppers has moved over to a new 10 Gb/second network and server and it is incredibly fast. Let me show you what we did and how you can create your own 10 Gb/s network for a fraction of the price. For the past four years we have been using a Synology NAS (network attached storage) device to work from and to backup all of our photo and video content. It has served us well but as we hire more people, and as we begin shooting videos in 4K, it has been filling up and slowing down. It was time for us to upgrade.

When I first started to invest, I could only afford a measly $50 per month. Granted, I was in college still and living on Ramen noodles but with a part-time job at the mall and an internship at our local investment firm, I finally started to understand the importance of investing. Over time that $50 a month turned into $100 a month, then $250 a month and kept growing from there. It almost seemed surreal when it got to a point where I could invest $5000 at once into one investment. It was an awesome feeling but also scary knowing how long it took me to save up that $5000. Hopefully you have found yourself in the same situation, trying to figure out what to do with $5,000 sitting in your bank account. There are several different avenues you can take, and it's important that you understand all of your options. Regardless of if you're a new investor or a seasoned pro, it's vital that you make the best decision for your money. Thanks to the internet, there are a bunch of different ways that you can put your money to work. Your investment portfolio is going to secure your financial security. Take your time, do your research and find the best place for your $5k investment. This is a great opportunity to have a lasting impact on your future or that of your family.

There was once a boy called Jack who was brave and quick-witted. He lived with his mother in a small cottage and their most valuable possession was their cow, Milky-White. But the day came when Milky-White gave them no milk and Jack's mother said she must be sold. "Take her to market," she told Jack, "and mind you get a good price for her." So Jack set out to market leading Milky-White by her halter. After a while he sat down to rest by the side of the road. An old man came by and Jack told him where he was going.
