Geothermal energy is the second most abundant source of heat on earth, after solar energy. It is the natural heat energy stored in the earth. This energy is contained in about 260 billion cubic metres of rocks and metallic alloys, just below the outer surface of the earth, that are at or near their melting points (Lanterman & Lee, 2007). Calculations show that the Earth, originating from a completely molten state, would have cooled and become completely solid if the only energy input was that of the Sun, so it is believed that the ultimate source of geothermal energy is the decay of naturally radioactive isotopes (Dincer et al., 2007). The thermal energy from the earth continuously flows outwards. This heat transfer from the core to the surrounding mantle is principally via conduction. When the temperature and pressure of the system becomes high enough, some of the rocks that make up the mantle melt and form magma. As the liquid magma is less dense than surrounding rocks, it slowly rises, convecting thermal heat towards the earth’s crust (Lanterman & Lee, 2007).

Selected by NASA in 1963 into the third group of astronauts, Aldrin was the first with a doctorate and became known as “Dr. Rendezvous.” The docking and rendezvous techniques he devised for spacecraft in Earth and lunar orbit became critical to the success of the Gemini and Apollo programs, and are still used today. He also pioneered underwater training techniques, as a substitute for zero gravity flights, to simulate spacewalking. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world’s first successful spacewalk, overcoming prior difficulties experienced by Americans and Russians during extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and setting a new EVA record of 5 ½ hours. On July 20, 1969, Buzz and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world. They spent 21 hours on the lunar surface and returned with 46 pounds of moon rocks.

Breakdance is meer dan alleen trucjes doen. Boven alles is breakdance (de naam zegt het eigenlijk al) een dans! Je kunt breakdance onderverdelen in: uprocking (een dans waarbij een gevecht wordt na gespeeld), toprock (freestyle dansen, een soort introductie van jezelf), freezes (een aantal seconde een acrobatische houding vasthouden), powermoves (o.a. backspin, windmill, headspin, Thomas Flare) en acrobatische bewegingen (salto, flikflak, overslag, brug ). Het mooie van breakdance is dat het een aantal vaste basisbewegingen heeft, maar dat je eigen creativiteit ook heel erg op prijs wordt gesteld. Verder zal er ook aandacht zijn voor de hiphop cultuur zoals poppin & locking.
Sylvain Veldkamp is al jaren actief als danser en dansdocent van hiphop stijlen, zoals breakdance, poppin, electric boogaloo en house. Dit bracht hem op diverse podia over de hele wereld.
