According to France’s national aviation authority, the French Civil Aviation Authority, flying a drone is legal in France, but we recommend being aware of and compliant with the drone regulations listed below before doing so. If you’d like to contact the French Civil Aviation Authority directly before you travel with any questions you might have, message them on Twitter: @DGAC France is a part of the European Union and therefore must abide by the drone regulations put in place by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In addition to these regulations, France also has regulations that are country-specific. Based on our research and interpretation of the laws, here are the most important rules to know for flying a drone within the European Union. There are three operational categories that determine drone regulations based on the weight of the drone and the intended operation. This section will only cover the Open Category, to see all European Union laws and categories, click here.

There are various permissions and considerations in order to operate a drone for aerial filming in London. Drones may also be referred to as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA) or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). All commercial drone operators must be in possession of a CAA permission document. Any drone flight in an urban area or near large crowds of people, whether for private or commercial purposes, will require the same document. The CAA grants permission for multi-rotor and fixed-wing type, and will only grant permission for drones that do not exceed 20kg.Productions using drones for filming purposes must ensure they are familiar with aircraft legislation and procedures that relate to aerial filming in London. Due to the nature of the local airspace and the density of population there are some important restrictions on the operation of aircraft in and around the capital.

The Mikrokopter is powered by brushless motors. However, to use such motors the direct current of the batteries has to be converted to an triphasic alternating current) with power output controled so that the speed of the motors can be accurately controled. There are numerous brushless speed controlers available on the market. However very few are available which can fulfill the special requirements: We need brushless controlers which can accept a new throttle value very rapidly (< 0.5ms) and implement it. In addition the controler has to have an I2C bus interface.
