Digital photography has changed a lot in the last 20 years (duh). Camera technology has improved dramatically, but so has the software and machines that interpret the fruits of our photographic labors. Somewhere right before the 2010’s, we entered what I think of as the “Photoshop Era.” Adobe Photoshop was starting to gain popularity, and the expression, “photoshop it” started getting thrown around. In fact, in 2008, Merriam Webster added “photoshop” to their dictionary as a verb. What I think happened in this period was that photographers who had been working before the advent of programs like Photoshop pushed back on the whole concept. “Real photographers don’t use Photoshop.” You ever hear that one? I know that I have.

Given the wide range of potential issues with lightning protection of ships, it is not surprising that a common problem is that the agent does not understand how to define the most pressing concern. Ill defined Class regulations, use of ambiguous terms such as "lightning arrestor", and the widespread availability of devices with checkered histories do not help. To this end we offer a standard 20-hour consulting package that provides basic concepts, identifies prioritized issues, and develops the framework for an effective lightning protective process. Please email us with questions or details. Another fundamental problem revealed in this scientific work was that a one square foot ground plate is "hopelessly inadequate" to prevent sideflashes in fresh water. This was not addressed in these earlier standard rewrites since, at the time, there was no obvious solution. We can now solve this problem with our patented SiedarcTM electrodes that, when distributed around the hull, provide the multiple exit points needed for effective grounding.

The AgustaWestland Project Zero is a hybrid tiltrotor/Lift fan aircraft. It has been developed by AgustaWestland as a technology demonstrator, and is used to investigate all-electric propulsion and other advanced technologies. It is the world's first electric tiltrotor aircraft. In December 2010, AgustaWestland's management approved the formation of a team under James Wang with the intention of producing a technology demonstrator incorporating as many new innovations as possible on a single airframe. Speaking in 2013, Wang noted that electric technologies were rapidly advancing, and that the function of Project Zero was to achieve readiness with electric aircraft technologies: "Rather than waiting for the battery to become even better, then working on electric aircraft technology, the team has positioned itself to be ready for the next generation of batteries".

We have talked about Pasi William Sachiti a few time in the past. We have been impressed by his UK startup, Academy of Robotics which has been working on Kar-go, a driverless car to solve the last mile delivery problem. The last time we talked about Sachiti and Kar-go, he had just successfully raised funding for the innovation via a crowdfunding platform. The autonomous vehicle was launched last week and it was hosted at two glamorous events in the UK. Kar-go was part of the Duke of Richmond’s Festivals of Speed (FOS). This is when the Duke hosts motoring enthusiasts from around the world who flock to see the latest concept cars to classics. A new addition to the show is what is called, the FOS Future Lab which has become a centre piece of the event. This is where Sachiti’s car was featured.

With Boeing projecting demand for 41,000 new commercial aircraft and 617,000 pilots over the next 20 years, traditional manned commercial airliners and business and general aviation aircraft will continue to dominate the skies in the near future. However, during the 2017 Paris Air Show, and really over the last year, several companies, including Airbus and Boeing have revealed new aerial flying concepts designed to give drivers in congested cities new options for getting to work, transporting cargo and other uses.

n the halcyon days of early 2005, a project was launched to bring long overdue native Unicode and internationalization support to PHP. It was deemed so far reaching and important that PHP needed to have a version bump. After more than 4 years of development, the project (and PHP 6 for now) was shelved. This talk will introduce Unicode and i18n concepts, explain why Web needs Unicode, why PHP needs Unicode, how we tried to solve it (with examples), and what eventually happened. No sordid details will be left uncovered.

Supercars are usually associated with screaming engines that drink gas like there is no tomorrow. However, there is no dearth of customers who love to possess these beasts, as they are good at turning some heads on the streets. The recent demand to curb emissions and run vehicles on alternative fuels has made some automakers and designers think about next-generation supercars, which are silent, clean and run without gas. Here is a list 15 such concept vehicles that can change the face of supercars forever:

Style Tiles are a design deliverable consisting of fonts, colors and interface elements that communicate the essence of a visual brand for the web. They help form a common visual language between the designers and the stakeholders and provide a catalyst for discussions around the preferences and goals of the client. Style Tiles are similar to the paint chips and fabric swatches an interior designer gets approval on before designing a room. An interior designer doesn't design three different rooms for a client at the first kick-off meeting, so why do Web designers design three different webpage mockups?
