If you’re buying your first home or getting ready to invest in securities for the first time, you probably have a lot of questions. The first and most important should be, “How do interest rates work?” This is an invaluable first question to ask because it’ll govern how you look at your investment – whether you’re a borrower taking on new debt or an investor calculating ROI. The fact is interest rates are the defining variables that control investments. Even more important than time, interest rates dictate what you can expect to gain from an equity or owe in debt. But they’re not just numbers – they have meaning and purpose. Understanding how interest rates work is your secret to maximizing your choices when it comes to investing. Here’s what you should know about this all-important governing factor. An interest rate is a percentage of a principal value that’s owed in regular intervals over the term of an investment. It’s the cost of borrowing money. Or, if you’re the creditor, it’s your rate of return. An interest rate is what makes lending money lucrative, and it’s a way of determining the cost of borrowing before you decide to take a loan. Here’s a simple example:

UnCommon Core: The Causes and Consequences of the Ukraine Crisis. John J. Mearsheimer, the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor in Political Science and Co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, assesses the causes of the present Ukraine crisis, the best way to end it, and its consequences for all of the main actors. A key assumption is that in order to come up with the optimum plan for ending the crisis, it is essential to know what caused the crisis. Regarding the all-important question of causes, the key issue is whether Russia or the West bears primary responsibility. Since its founding in 1890, the University of Chicago has been a destination for rigorous inquiry and field-defining research. This transformative academic experience empowers students and scholars to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas.

Rope makers seem to delight in confusing us with science and/or extraordinary polysyllabic names. Let me try to cut through the guff a little. Also known as Terylene or Dacron, polyester is the stuff from which most “ordinary” rope and line is made of. It is resistant to rot and ultra-violet (UV), sinks in water and comes in a variety of constructions: 3-strand pre-stretched - can be spliced in the normal fashion, though it is a good idea to use 4 or 5 tucks instead of the 3 used in natural fibre ropes. The “pre-stretch” refers to an extra tweak imparted during the making of the rope which makes it more suitable for halyards and bell ropes. Very important, that - could you imagine the cacophony which would result from using stretchy rope? The snag with this construction is that it can kink, so it’s unusual to use it as a sheet.

I am an addicted kiter, helicopter and jet pilot who seeks the wind, waves, METARs and powder snow almost constantly. Since programming is my passion, I coded Windyty.com in 2014 as my pet project. The original version was highly inspired by the products from the Swiss company Meteoblue and other project called "Earth", that displayed animated wind particles on the globe. I have completely rewrote open source codes of Earth and also made an agreement with Meteoblue to use some of their products that time. And thus Windyty was born (renamed to Windy a few years later). My goal is to keep Windy small and fast to be accessible in the most remote locations.

Michelangelo, Pietà, marble, 1498-1500 (Saint Peter's Basilica, Rome) Speakers: Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker. The Pietà was a popular subject among northern european artists. It means Pity or Compassion, and represents Mary sorrowfully contemplating the dead body of her son which she holds on her lap. This sculpture was commissioned by a French Cardinal living in Rome. Look closely and see how Michelangelo made marble seem like flesh, and look at those complicated folds of drapery. It is important here to remember how sculpture is made. It was a messy, rather loud process (which is one of the reasons that Leonardo claimed that painting was superior to sculpture!). Just like painters often mixed their own paint, Michelangelo forged many of his own tools, and often participated in the quarrying of his marble -- a dangerous job. When we look at the extraordinary representation of the human body here we remember that Michelangelo, like Leonardo before him, had dissected cadavers to understand how the body worked. - Created by Beth Harris and Steven Zucker.

We've finally done it: Fstoppers has moved over to a new 10 Gb/second network and server and it is incredibly fast. Let me show you what we did and how you can create your own 10 Gb/s network for a fraction of the price. For the past four years we have been using a Synology NAS (network attached storage) device to work from and to backup all of our photo and video content. It has served us well but as we hire more people, and as we begin shooting videos in 4K, it has been filling up and slowing down. It was time for us to upgrade.

Nandini Jammi - October 10, 2014 Seth Godin issued a challenge in his blog recently as he questioned how businesses are still collecting user feedback. “If you live in the US, you might try calling 800-398-0242. That’s the number Fedex Print lists on all their receipts, hoping for customer feedback. It’s hard to imagine a happy customer working her way through all of these menus and buttons and clicks, and harder still to imagine an annoyed customer being happy to do all of this data processing for them. The alternative is pretty simple: if you’re about to lose a $10,000 customer, put the cell phone number of the regional manager on the receipt. That’s what you and I would do if we owned the place, wouldn’t we?”

With Boeing projecting demand for 41,000 new commercial aircraft and 617,000 pilots over the next 20 years, traditional manned commercial airliners and business and general aviation aircraft will continue to dominate the skies in the near future. However, during the 2017 Paris Air Show, and really over the last year, several companies, including Airbus and Boeing have revealed new aerial flying concepts designed to give drivers in congested cities new options for getting to work, transporting cargo and other uses.

SequenceDiagram.org is a completely free online tool for creating sequence diagrams. The graphic design is created by yusi.se. All processing of parsing and painting the diagram is done using javascript client side in the user's web browser. This not only makes it snappy to work with, but it also means that your secrets are safe. Since no backend server is used it is also possible to use the web application offline. There are many sequence diagram tools out there but this is the only one which allows you to: Script using a simple text notation when it is most convenient to do so, and Interact using your mouse to draw and change arrows or create notes when that is most convenient In other words bringing the best from both worlds. This makes it very easy to work with large diagram where other similar tools struggle. It also doesn't have any ads or unnecessary istracting elements. (Even the top bar can be hidden to maximize the working area). The source script of the diagrams can be save as text files directly to your hard drive or in the browsers local storage. There are also single click buttons to save the diagram in HQ png or LQ jpeg format. The size of the image depends on the current zoom level. If you want to share a diagram with others there is a URL share button available. It creates a link containing all the data of the diagram and can be sent to others so that they can view your diagram or keep working where you left off. The tool is developed and maintained by people who create a lot of sequence diagrams in their daily work and from efficiency point of view weren't 100% satisfied with the existing tools.

A lot of us would like to take part in the 360 degree video revolution but when you look on the sites at what is needed it all seems a little pricey. After all, these are only 1080p camera which every mobile phone has and the technology is not that expensive unless you want the branded cameras or very high end optics and sensors. All of these cameras when fitted with the cover case can go under water as well to 30m apparently.

A joint venture is a business agreement where 2 or more businesses come together to pool their resources in order to make a profit. Common joint venture examples are eBooks, webinars, teleclasses and telesummits where the contributors co-author a book or co-present at an event. I recommend joint ventures for my clients as they are a great way to grow your prospect list and to take on new clients. At the same time you can expand your reach to the network or mailing list of your partners, make more money as a result of selling to a wider audience, share strengths and minimize risks, plus adding great value to your clients and customers as you bring on board new expertise.

Electronic devices can use lots of different methods to detect a person's input on a touch screen. Most of them use sensors and circuitry to monitor changes in a particular state. Many, including the iPhone, monitor changes in electrical current. Others monitor changes in the reflection of waves. These can be sound waves or beams of near-infrared light. A few systems use transducers to measure changes in vibration caused when your finger hits the screen's surface or cameras to monitor changes in light and shadow.
