I don't sail but this idea interests me. Why couldn't a turbine of some description be fitted to the underside or even integrated into the keel to add to energy produced That is called an hydrogenerator and many oceanic sailboats use them. On the Vendee Globe, the non stop sailing race around the world most boats have two. They are expensive, with a price around 4/5000 euros. Finally somebody is working actively in what seems to be an obvious way to generate electric electricity on sailboats: Photo-voltaic sails. Till now the technology did not allow for panels flexible enough to allow that but on last years the technology has evolved a lot. It is already possible and it will not be expensive in the future. At least a sail manufacturer is working already actively on that, the UKsails France branch.

The rquirement is to lift the boat's hull outside the water. Hydrofoil (It is a foil or wing under water used to lift the boat's hull until it is totally outside the water.) Explanation: 1. At low speeds the hull (body of ship) sits in the water and the hydrofoils are totally submerged in the water. 2. As the boat's speed increases, the hydrofoils create lift. 3. At a certain speed, the lift produced by the hydrofoils equals the sum of of the boat and cargo weights. Therefore the hull comes out of the water. 4. Instead of having an increase in drag with increasing speed because the hull is lifted out of the water (contrary to what happens in traditional boats due to pressure drag), the hydrofoils provide a more efficient way of cruising. Decreasing the drag contributes to the better use of the power needed for the movement of the boat.

The unit is exactly the same size, however the energy efficiency has been improved. The Cyclone Top Fitting increases the efficiency of the Showersave by making the hot waste shower water swirl around and down through the central copper pipe of the Showersave. This increases the amount of time the hot water is in contact with copper pipe to maximise heat transfer. Greater heat recovery is achieved with the Cyclone top.

EcoRocket is designed around two main features: cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness and it is designed to launch commercial payloads starting with 2021. The EcoRocket Heavy will follow. The first two stages are reusable and are using water-based propulsion technology that generates water vapours through cold reaction. The expandable third stage uses conventional hot rocket propulsion and it's ignited at high altitude, above the thick atmosphere. Both the first and second stage use the high efficiency aerospike engine technology. The whole rocket uses 86% water-based propellant. ARCA already tested this technology at full-scale. EcoRocket is sea-launched, directly from the sea surface, the first sea trials taking place on the Black Sea, in July 2021. EcoRocket is competing in the European Commission's 10 million Euros competition that aim to stimulate the creation of new, small orbital launchers that are cost effective and friendly to the environment.

This document discusses the creation and maintenance of "Summary Tables". It is a companion to the document on Data Warehousing Techniques. The basic terminology ("Fact Table", "Normalization", etc) is covered in that document. Summary tables are a performance necessity for large tables. MariaDB and MySQL do not provide any automated way to create such, so I am providing techniques here. (Other vendors provide something similar with "materialized views".) When you have millions or billions of rows, it takes a long time to summarize the data to present counts, totals, averages, etc, in a size that is readily digestible by humans. By computing and saving subtotals as the data comes in, one can make "reports" run much faster. (I have seen 10x to 1000x speedups.) The subtotals go into a "summary table". This document guides you on efficiency in both creating and using such tables.

Specific impulse indicates how many pounds (or kilograms) of thrust are obtained by the consumption of one pound (or kilogram) of propellant in one second. Specific impulse is characteristic of the type of propellant, however, its exact value will vary to some extent with the operating conditions and design of the rocket engine.

Since the fuel salt is liquid, it can be both the fuel (producing the heat) and the coolant (transporting the heat to the power plant). There are many different types of MSRs, but the most talked about one is definitely the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR). This MSR has Thorium and Uranium dissolved in a fluoride salt and can get planet-scale amounts of energy out of our natural resources of Thorium minerals, much like a fast breeder can get large amounts of energy out of our Uranium minerals. There are also fast breeder fluoride MSRs that don’t use Th at all. And there are chloride salt based fast MSRs that are usually studied as nuclear waste-burners due to their extraordinary amount of very fast neutrons.

A very clever man called Rudolf Diesel invented a new type of engine that operated at a higher compression ratio and didn't have spark plugs. The first thing that he noticed was that it was about 30% more efficient than a petrol engine and, also, he could run it on vegetable oil! Very quickly, the engine became adapted for use with fossil fuels since they were, and still are, very much cheaper than vegetable oil and Rudolf's second idea became forgotten.
