Bye Aerospace E-Flyer’s Electric Airplane Flies 525 Miles on a Charge – Robb Report

https://robbreport.com/motors/aviation/bye-aerospace-eflyer-800-electric-airplane-1234609755/

Saved by uncleflo on February 12th, 2022.

Bye Aerospace’s eFlyer 800 is a clean-sheet design that will carry eight people, including one or two pilots. The 800 will have two motors, powered by a grid of electric cells across the airframe. This is the third model in a lineup of electric planes from the Denver-based aerospace firm, but the first with two motors. The eFlyer 2 is a two-seater for professional flight training that was developed when the company launched in 2014, and the eFlyer 4, a four-seater for air taxi and advanced training, came later. Both models have more than 360 orders each. “The eFlyer 800 is the first all-electric propulsion technology airplane that achieves twin-turboprop performance and safety with no CO2 and extremely low operating costs,” said CEO George E. Bye in a statement. The eight-seat aircraft will be competing against turboprops with much higher operating costs, but will have similar interior space and accommodations. Bye Aerospace The eFlyer 800 is Bye’s response to the growing demand for all-electric aircraft that can deliver local and regional flights, but with greater capacity and capabilities, at a substantially lower operating cost than traditional fossil fuel aircraft.

AgustaWestland Project Zero - Wikipedia

Saved by uncleflo on December 22nd, 2019.

The AgustaWestland Project Zero is a hybrid tiltrotor/Lift fan aircraft. It has been developed by AgustaWestland as a technology demonstrator, and is used to investigate all-electric propulsion and other advanced technologies. It is the world's first electric tiltrotor aircraft. In December 2010, AgustaWestland's management approved the formation of a team under James Wang with the intention of producing a technology demonstrator incorporating as many new innovations as possible on a single airframe. Speaking in 2013, Wang noted that electric technologies were rapidly advancing, and that the function of Project Zero was to achieve readiness with electric aircraft technologies: "Rather than waiting for the battery to become even better, then working on electric aircraft technology, the team has positioned itself to be ready for the next generation of batteries".

Wind Turbine Design

https://learnengineering.org/wind-turbine-design/

Saved by uncleflo on November 28th, 2018.

Primary objective in wind turbine design is to maximize the aerodynamic efficiency, or power extracted from the wind. But this objective should be met by well satisfying mechanical strength criteria and economical aspects. In this video we will see impact of number of blades, blade shape, blade length and tower height on wind turbine design. The next big factor which is affecting performance of wind turbine is shape and orientation of blade cross section. A moving machine experiences fluid flow at a different velocity than the actual velocity. It is called as relative or apparent velocity. Apparent velocity of flow is difference between actual flow and blade velocity. Absolute velocity of the flow is shown in first figure, while apparent velocity in the second figure. It is clear that apparent velocity of flow is vectorial difference between actual and blade velocity. The vector difference is shown in the first figure at a particular cross section. A rotating blade will experience an apparent velocity of flow.

List of X-planes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_X-planes

Saved by uncleflo on April 2nd, 2014.

The X-planes are a series of experimental United States airplanes and helicopters (and some rockets) used to test and evaluate new technologies and aerodynamic concepts. Most of the X-planes have been operated by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) or, later, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), often in conjunction with the United States Air Force. The majority of X-Plane testing has occurred at Edwards Air Force Base.[
