The AgustaWestland Project Zero is a hybrid tiltrotor/Lift fan aircraft. It has been developed by AgustaWestland as a technology demonstrator, and is used to investigate all-electric propulsion and other advanced technologies. It is the world's first electric tiltrotor aircraft. In December 2010, AgustaWestland's management approved the formation of a team under James Wang with the intention of producing a technology demonstrator incorporating as many new innovations as possible on a single airframe. Speaking in 2013, Wang noted that electric technologies were rapidly advancing, and that the function of Project Zero was to achieve readiness with electric aircraft technologies: "Rather than waiting for the battery to become even better, then working on electric aircraft technology, the team has positioned itself to be ready for the next generation of batteries".

Our antifouling paint test threw up some interesting results. At first glance the boards show a range of different results, but only when you investigate the product and why it performed how it did do you fully understand what has happened.
Firstly it shows that professional application paints seem to perform marginally better. The higher toxicity of the paint is deemed too risky for the public to handle, so perhaps that’s why it’s also more effective.
Rather more surprising is that, contrary to expectations, many of the paints performed better in the Mediterranean than in the UK, although as the variations in our UK results proved, that may not apply to other areas of the Med.
The muddy waters of the East Coast proved the most challenging with all the paints showing plenty of slime and the occasional patch of weed.
However, the big surprise for us was the relative success of the silicone paints in a static test that would usually have favoured soft or copolymer copper-based antifoulings.
When choosing a paint, it’s important to think about how much you’ll be using your boat, as some of the hard paints will perform so much better with regular usage, while if you only plan on pottering up a river occasionally, you might be better off by going for a soft self-eroding paint.
Armed with the results of this test, you should be able to make a more informed decision on what paint to use this season, even if you’re not bold enough to try the silicone alternative.

In the previous chapter, we explored in depth what we mean by the tidy text format and showed how this format can be used to approach questions about word frequency. This allowed us to analyze which words are used most frequently in documents and to compare documents, but now let’s investigate a different topic. Let’s address the topic of opinion mining or sentiment analysis. When human readers approach a text, we use our understanding of the emotional intent of words to infer whether a section of text is positive or negative, or perhaps characterized by some other more nuanced emotion like surprise or disgust. We can use the tools of text mining to approach the emotional content of text programmatically, as shown in Figure 2.1.

I've been investigating a few of the JavaScript frameworks such as Backbone.js and Batman.js for a while and whilst I really like them, I have one niggling thing that I keep coming back to. That issue is accessibility. As a web developer I've always tried to make my websites and applications with accessibility in mind, especially using the idea of progressive enhancement. Clearly out of the box these new JS frameworks don't gracefully degrade, so I was wondering what are other developers thoughts on this issue and what are you doing about it. After all the accessibility of a website / app isn't really an optional thing as it's part of the law in many countries.

Since the mid-1970s, there has been a dramatic shift in America's socioeconomic system, one that has gone virtually unnoticed by the general public. Tax policies and their enforcement have become a disaster, and thanks to discreet lobbying by a segment of the top 1 percent, Washington is reluctant or unable to fix them. The corporate income tax, the estate tax, and the gift tax have been largely ignored by the media. But the cumulative results are remarkable: today someone who earns a yearly salary of $60,000 pays a larger percentage of his income in taxes than the four hundred richest Americans.
