You will be living on board a sailing yacht during the course. A course for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills. Learn to skipper a short passage with the instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement and ensure your safety. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well and being responsible when it doesn't. This course will also qualify you for an ICC certificate. The minimum requirement to charter a boat, we will cover pontoon and med moorings. Although there is no requirement to have undertaken any previous RYA courses there is a pre-course prerequisite for Day skipper practical.

RYA Day Skipper Practical - Sail The Canaries

Each trainee skipper will be asked to skipper the yacht on a short passage. Your instructor will be on hand to give advice and encouragement and to ensure that your destination is reached safely. The essential element is that you experience being in charge and take the credit when all goes well, but also have responsibility when it doesn`t. The end of each day is usually spent around the chart table discussing the passages and gaining from each other`s experience. Day Skipper Practical is the normal follow on Practical course from Competent Crew, however the theory knowledge must be gained prior to attempting this practical course. The course will cover, preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualing, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making and night cruising.

I am an addicted kiter, helicopter and jet pilot who seeks the wind, waves, METARs and powder snow almost constantly. Since programming is my passion, I coded Windyty.com in 2014 as my pet project. The original version was highly inspired by the products from the Swiss company Meteoblue and other project called "Earth", that displayed animated wind particles on the globe. I have completely rewrote open source codes of Earth and also made an agreement with Meteoblue to use some of their products that time. And thus Windyty was born (renamed to Windy a few years later). My goal is to keep Windy small and fast to be accessible in the most remote locations.

The RYA Online Day Skipper course is a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board. Unlike other online learning organisations, this course does not use video CD but a FULLY interactive learning suite. No matter where you are in the world, the Day Skipper course can be tailored to your requirements. There are no pre-course requirements for this RYA online Day Skipper theory course, but some sailing knowledge is helpful.
