The club was founded at the end of 2017 by active yachtsmen of Cyprus, athletes and skippers, keen on sailing people. Q&A: Radar Scanner Position - Attainable Adventure Cruising

Question: What is your preference regarding the best place to mount a radar antenna? As far as we can tell from the pictures of Morgan’s Cloud you have mounted yours on a pole aft. Our previous experience with radars tells us that the antenna should be as high and free as possible. Wouldn’t a radar antenna mounted on the mast just above the first spreaders give better range and a more detailed radar picture than if it were mounted lower? It also appears from the pictures that your antenna isn’t mounted in a way that makes it able to tilt so that it can compensate for heel of the boat when sailing. Answer: First off, we should say that we view radar as the most important piece of electronic equipment on Morgan’s Cloud—yes, more important than GPS, since we can find our way with a compass and sextant but we can’t see unlit objects at night or through fog—so we have given a lot of thought to the position and installation of our radar scanner. We prefer a pole mounted aft for the scanner over mast mounting.

The Swede 55 was conceived in 1975 by naval architect Knud Reimers of Denmark. He is best known for his design of square meter class yachts and the Udell International. The Swede 55 was a stock design and to this day remains a very popular boat. The Swede 55 was built by Fiskastra Varb shipyard. Upon request of some of Stockholms KSSS members, Reimers designed the Swede 55 as a cruising ocean racing square meter yacht. The Isle of Man Treasury has published a draft of the proposed Income Tax (Substance Requirements) Order 2018. This draft Order will, once final, and if approved by Tynwald (in December 2018), have effect in respect of accounting periods commencing on or after 1 January 2019. I can always sell it to my customers as a Software License (Intellectual Property), or I can invoice and sell it as turnkey programming hours, or I can sell it as ready-made product. It depends what's better for me, my customers are tolerant to me we have very close relationships and I found that some countries have tax-friendly strategies for Intellectual Properties for example, so that's why I am mentioning this. All my activities are online and remote, I also travel a lot. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depends on mood. International Flotilla Skipper | IYT Worldwide

Joining a “flotilla” is a fun and exciting way to learn how to confidently skipper a charter yacht for the very first time. A group of boats sail together (flotilla) along a set route, with a “lead boat” in charge, overseeing the safety of all the boats where all the boats are within range of a VHF radio call if required. Before departing in the morning, a route is planned for the day with a set destination for the evenings so that all the boats can anchor or tie up to a mooring buoy (before dark) for the night. Generally speaking, flotillas are restricted to passages close to shore, in fair weather and in good visibility. They are usually followed in the evenings by a beach bar-b-que or dinner together in a social atmosphere where students can swap stories and learn from each other. It is a great way to make new friends and build your confidence, while still enjoying the freedom of being in command of your own vessel with your family and friends.

This is a 3 to 4 day course, depending on wind and conditions, aimed to deliver a safe, informed, confident and competent day sailor/skipper who can confidently command a sailboat up to 10 meters (32.8 feet) and crew during daylight hours in fair conditions in inland waters (bay or lake sailing) or coastal waters up to 5 miles offshore. As you advance and become more proficient as crew or skipper you take on bigger challenges that require proper training to ensure the safety of your family and friends. The bigger the boat or length of adventure the more training you require. Most of us prefer to spend our time on the water and not in a classroom. In early 2017, the Mini 747 prototype was the first and is still the only offshore racing monohull that can stay steadily airborne. At 8 knots of wind, only the foils touch the water, which means that it can reach higher speeds in certain points of sailing than those of water displacing sailing yachts twice its size. Up until now the boat showcased SEAir’s expertise and our technological development laboratory, but we are now getting it ready to return to racing. It will race in the events of the Mini circuit, including the well-known single-handed Mini Transat, blazing the trail of foiling monohulls crossing the Atlantic in record time. Having gained experience on the 747, SEAir is now in a position to design the elder sisters of this forerunner, destined to beat records and take part in the top open, single-handed, rating or crewed races. Currently only sailing on certain circuits, foiling boats will naturally continue their ascension and end up sailing in all racing programmes.

After three and a half years of sailing around the world and well over 10000 nautical miles we wanted to give you a tour of our floating home as it is now. Nahoa is a 2005 Lagoon 410 owner’s version that has carried us all this way. We have worked hard over these last years to set her up for long term offshore cruising. While there is always a project list and a wish list (new high output alternators, spinnaker, new Genoa), we are very happy with our current setup and wanted to share it with you. Our longest video to date includes a high level view of our main power, navigation and safety systems that enable us to live life off the grid. Don’t worry you also get a detailed tour of the inside of our boat and the comforts that keep us happily sailing around the world! Nahoa has had a huge remodel since we purchased her in 2015. We have done 2 refits to get her setup for comfort and to solve our power requirements. Notice all the beautiful green has been replaced? Well that isn’t all! Below we have a list of some of the main components we have added or replaced. This list does not include basic maintenance items since those are essentially relentless. It does however cover some of the bigger items which were replaced as they broke and wore out. We have found that in the last year, as the boat turned 12-13 years old, we have had to replace more of the remaining systems. Also the previous owner had replaced standing rigging and so that is something we have not had to yet tackle, but it will come up again soon! There may be a certain charm to such convenience. In London we run Day Skipper, Yachtmaster and Ocean Yachtmaster navigation classes as well as the RYA 1 day courses in various locations. We usually have something running within the City, Canary Wharf, Holborn and Limehouse but we will and do run courses anywhere in London. Shorebased sailing courses are extremely popular within the Capital. We have a base in Limehouse at the Cruising Association from where we run the full range of RYA shorebased courses but we also specialise in going into the offices of companies all over London, from Canary Wharf to Brentford, and running evening classes for employees of those companies and their family and friends. ‘Outsiders’ to these companies (ie non employees) are also often allowed to attend.
