Ancient recovery materials: Recovery and sale of building materials for renovation. All that is needed for a good renovation. Brick and Stone was born from the passion for grandpa Mario’s old stuff and the philosophy of “tomorrow can serve …”; after a life spent in the countryside as a farmer, in 1988 he moved leaving the farm and with it a series of materials apparently of no use and destined to be disposed of. Sorry for the end recipient and with some difficulty in finding it for Daniele and his grandfather begins the search for some possible buyer, but in the end with good results! At the same time, the young person begins to understand the difference between the various cooked, their epochs, their cooking, the stones, the portals, the stairs, the fireplaces and everything that is necessary and fundamental for a good renovation. ” From this experience for him the passion transmitted by his grandfather for all that is ancient or better … “old” is consolidated; and that slowly leads him to abandon his job as a worker to devote himself full time. In 1996, what is now Recuperando Brick & Stone was born, located in the heart of Tuscany, home of terracotta and sandstone, carefully selects and recovers ancient and precious materials for the renovation and construction of welcoming and original houses and environments. A constructive philosophy that creates a fair balance between living and lived, the present and the past in the everyday life of human living. An old handmade work and lived for years, for centuries in contact with a man’s daily life has its own soul, transmits life and warmth. Seeing is believing…

Photographers Rachel and Daniel of Mango Street have released a 5-part video tutorial series that teaches how to plan a shoot, find a suitable location, secure the ideal model, conduct the shoot, and edit the results. The shoot was conducted using a Canon 5D Mark IV and a Hasselblad x1D. Thoughts on the latter are found in the final video in this series. In this video, learn how to create a mood-board that will guide you through the entire shoot process, keeping you on track. For example, with the shoot being inspired by the French vintage style in the movie Amelie, images from Google of these specific styles were used to inform the stylist via the mood board. With a $300 budget for finding a location, adapting and compromising was definitely on the cards. The photographers look at both the color and texture of a shoot location, as well as the light and interactivity of the area.

Last month marked a landmark moment for women in the UK: the Domestic Abuse Bill was finally signed into law. The legislation, granted royal assent on 29 April to become the Domestic Abuse Act, aims to extend greater protection to the millions of women at risk of abuse every day - from physical harm to coercive control and sexual violence. It also targets revenge porn and will clamp down on claims of 'rough sex gone wrong' in trials. Hailed as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve how England and Wales responds to domestic abuse, British Vogue takes a closer look at what the legislation actually means for women. In recent years the use of the 'rough sex' defence - arguing that consensual violence during sex had caused a victim's death - has been on the rise, increasing tenfold over a period of 20 years. Labour MP Harriet Harman and Conservative MP Mark Garnier introduced an amendment to the DA Bill to get the use of the defence banned. Now, it's an offence to deliberately strangle another person or perform an act that restricts a person's ability to breathe - and it carries a sentence of up to five years.

Lots Ait Boatyard is situated on an island in the river Thames between Kew Gardens and Brentford. An important part of London's commercial boating history, it was one of the last tidal boatyards to be closed in the early 1970's. Thanks partly to its island location, Lots Ait avoided re-development and has remained very much as it was left over 30 years ago with weeds and undergrowth hiding the vintage boat sheds and machinery that were formerly a hive of activity. John Watson, owner of John's Boat Works Ltd says "I have a lifelong passion for traditional boatbuilding and our great boating heritage, so having the opportunity to be involved in reopening Lots Ait boatyard is a dream come true. The revitalised boatyard will provide a fantastic boatbuilding and repair resource on the Thames for boat owners and enthusiasts and will also provide an opportunity for a new generation of craftsmen and women to experience and acquire traditional and modern boatbuilding and restoration skills."

A mile offshore from San Benedicto, a volcanic island in the Eastern Pacific, and 75 feet deep, I raise my GoPro to take a selfie. I want to preserve this moment, not only because it’s the first dive of what promises to be a truly memorable adventure, but also because on my wrist is a very rare watch. I’m wearing a vintage Tornek-Rayville TR-900, a watch built by Blancpain for the United States Navy in the 1960s, and this is likely the only surviving one that has been fully serviced and suitably sealed for modern dive use. It’s a photo for bragging rights, or perhaps an epitaph, should I be the one to lose or flood such a rare horological treasure.
