Know Which Aluminum Alloy You Are WeldingIt isn’t enough to know that you are welding aluminum. Welding professionals have to know which alloy is about to be welded, and they have to know the correct filler metal to use. The most common alloys used in shipbuilding are the Al-Mg 5XXX sheet alloys and the Al-Mg-Si 6XXX extrusion alloys, primarily because of their excellent resistance to corrosion.

Aluminum 5052 is one of the higher strength non-heat treatable alloys (Annealed it is stronger than 1100 and 3003). Alloy 5052 has excellent characteristics with a high fatigue strength it is used for structures which are subject to excessive vibrations. As 5052 also has excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine atmospheres and is therefore commonly used in boats, marine components, fuel and oil tubing. Aluminum 5052 is stocked by 120 North American distributors and produced by 46 large mills. Distributors will offer small quantity buys while mills will generally only sell large quantities, with delivery times anywhere from 10 to 50 weeks depending on size and form required. Nice Apollo TDF road bike in good condition and fully working, the seat tubing is 47 cm long from the bottom bracket. I will fit heights between 5"5` to 5"7` or 168-174 cm. There is a rip in the saddle-- see picture- may be easily repaired. Brakes, gears and everything else work all fine. The bike was serviced regularly and can be ridden straight away!!
