Experienced instructors, own monoflot of FAREAST 28R yachts in the beautiful Limassol Marina and, of course, the most friendly and cheerful yacht community in Cyprus. The club was founded at the end of 2017 by active yachtsmen of Cyprus, athletes and skippers, keen on sailing people. The main goal of the club is the popularization of yachting, sailing, and the formation of the teams to participate at any level offshore regattas. Most boaters have one very important thing in common. The safety of their boats often depends on it. Their own safety - sometimes their lives - may depend on it. This thing is used on an everyday basis and also during emergencies and in storms. But few of us give it much thought. Few of us have a clue about what makes it good, bad or indifferent, although we should insist that it be "good." This thing is the pier. I have a clue now. I thought I did before, but I learned a few things recently because my pier of 27 years began falling apart. I had been concerned about it for some time because wooden pilings, stringers and crossties don't last forever in water full of things that eat wood. But the pier was supposedly well built, and it seemed to be doing its job, so I left it alone. As a result, I learned some things about what we should look for when we call a marina to seek shelter in a storm, rent a slip for a season, buy a "dockominium" or even rent a slip overnight. Doing any of these things without giving some thought to whether the pier can do the job you need could cause you big trouble.

The aim of this publication is to describe the use of timber for marine and fresh water constructional purposes. It indicates how timber can provide a solution to many of the problems confronting dock, harbour and river board engineers and others, concerned with water construction. With a knowledge of the hazards to which timber may be exposed, and careful selection of the species with the most appropriate properties for the job, a satisfactory and long lasting structure can be obtained at relatively low cost. The principle functions of marine and fresh water structures where timber is utilized and which are described here are:- (a) The prevention of erosion of the sea coast and of river and canal banks. (b) The construction of wharfs, jetties, docks and dock gates, and the protection of such structures by fendering and rubbing pieces. (c) The construction of marinas and yacht havens.

I have just bought a yacht back from France with a NAVICOM RT 450 DSC a couple of years old. But I cannot get the full range of radio channels, especially M1 and M2, is it me or the radio? Is the radio set on USA rather than International channels? There's usually a means of switching from one to the other.

Welcome to Boatworks Today, a show supported by viewers like you! Hey everybody, my name is Andy Miller and I am the creator of Boatworks Today… A little bit about myself and this show! I went to college at St. Norberts just outside of Green Bay (GO PACKERS!) and finished up there with a BA in Psychology and Sociology. Finding out a little too late into the curriculum, I decided that I didn’t really want to spend the rest of my life listening to people complain about themselves (yea, I had some internships that left a bad taste in my mouth). So, after graduation I was off to figure out what it is that I REALLY wanted to do with my life. I bounced around a bit, met the lovely person who is now my Wife, bought a sailboat and we lived on it for a while. Became a scuba instructor, but decided that boats were something that called out to me. I took an entry level apprenticeship position at one of the local marinas and after roughly 7 years with them I decided to pull the trigger and venture off on my own. Miller Boatworks was created, and the rest as they say is history! Many people have written in and commented that an electric motor is only good for day sailors who weren’t going very far each day, and that you need a reliable diesel engine for long distance cruising. But we feel like the opposite is true. Since we don’t have a dock to tie up to and charge our batteries each night, we rely on sailing to recharge our system. The longer we sail and the more sun we get, the more power we make. Because we don’t have a 9-5 to return to at the end of a fun weekend out on the boat, we have no schedules requiring that we make it back to the dock on time, no matter what the wind is doing. So, we feel that an electric motor, depending on your sailing style, can be adapted to any boat. But, you have to be willing to work around the one major draw back, range.

Every owner is different, they cruise for longer or shorter periods, moor in different areas of the country under many different conditions, some in purpose built marinas others alongside a farmers field with no facilities. The actual cost will therefore vary with the circumstances; however, the following will give a guide to the new boater. The example given is for a 55ft boat, originally built to provide a reasonably high standard of comfort including a diesel generator. It has a reasonably high usage of about 100 days per year and is maintained to a reasonably high standard without being excessive.
