Landlocked Luxembourg is one of the richest countries in Europe, with the highest per capita GDP in the European Union.
Taking up 2,586 square kilometers, Luxembourg is roughly the size of Rhode Island. From the capital of Luxembourg City, Belgium, France and Germany can all be reached by car in half an hour. High housing costs, especially in Luxembourg City, mean more than 180,000 of its workforce commute from those neighboring countries every day. "Luxembourg is a very attractive place for jobs," explains Geoffrey Caruso, a professor at the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research specializing in land use and transportation. But its "booming economy" and high concentration of jobs have led to congestion issues, he says.

The J Class Association (JCA) was founded to protect the interests of the Class, present and future. To keep the J-Class fleet and races alive and to encourage new build yachts to enter the field, new Class rules were established for the construction of Replica Rebuilds from original plans. One of the key drivers of the J-Class revival was the decision of the J-Class Association to allow aluminium and other materials to be used as a hull construction material. This reinforced the renewed interest among owners to build J-class yachts. After a performance analysis by Gerard Dijkstra of the existing J's as well as the designs that were allowed to be built under the new JCA rules, a specific J Class handicap system was developed in order to enable all yachts built to the J Class designs to race against each other regardless of size, sail area or hull construction.

His journey takes him from the richest nation in the world, America, to Dubai, to the home of the Oligarchs, Russia, before ending up in Thailand. Along the way he meets a 17-year-old girl with unlimited credit card access and personal fitness coaches on demand, a teenage boy who rubs shoulders with Dubai’s royal family, an Oligarch’s daughter with her own chain of fashion stores, and Thailand’s version of Paris Hilton. But what’s the best way for the richest parents in the world to bring up their children? And is there a way for them to allow their kids to tap into the family resources without spoiling them too much?

Since the mid-1970s, there has been a dramatic shift in America's socioeconomic system, one that has gone virtually unnoticed by the general public. Tax policies and their enforcement have become a disaster, and thanks to discreet lobbying by a segment of the top 1 percent, Washington is reluctant or unable to fix them. The corporate income tax, the estate tax, and the gift tax have been largely ignored by the media. But the cumulative results are remarkable: today someone who earns a yearly salary of $60,000 pays a larger percentage of his income in taxes than the four hundred richest Americans.

LIFE at the bottom is nasty, brutish and short. For this reason, heartless folk might assume that people in the lower social classes will be more self-interested and less inclined to consider the welfare of others than upper-class individuals, who can afford a certain noblesse oblige. A recent study, however, challenges this idea. Experiments by Paul Piff and his colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley, reported this week in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, suggest precisely the opposite. It is the poor, not the rich, who are inclined to charity.
