Engineering ToolBox - Resources, Tools and Basic Information for Engineering and Design of Technical Applications! Energy content or calorific value is the same as the heat of combustion, and can be calculated from thermodynamical values, or measured in a suitable apparatus: A known amount of the fuel is burned at constant pressure and under standard conditions (0°C and 1 bar) and the heat released is captured in a known mass of water in a calorimeter. If the initial and final temperatures of the water is measured, the energy released can be calculated using the equation

The Boatbuilder Connection I would like to know if,when replacing a diesel engine with an electric motor someone need to look for the same HP for the electric motor as the hp the diesel had. probably not the exact same HP, because electric motors have more torque at lower RPMs than an internal cumbustion engine

Its advantage is its compact design, low weight with a thrust of up to 1,300 N, and low fuel consumption in the given power category. The generator output is 750 W. One of the PBS TJ100 engine versions enables landing on water. The PBS TJ100 engine is a single-shaft jet engine consisting of a radial compressor, radial and axial diffuser, annular combustion chamber, axial turbine and a fixed outlet nozzle. The PBS TJ100 jet engine was developed for UAVs, missiles, light sport aircraft and gliders with an additional engine. We have delivered hundreds of our jet engines for manned experimental aircrafts and unmanned aircrafts all around the world.

Have you just bought an old sailboat with a dead or dying engine? You might have a boat worth less than a third of what a new diesel would cost, and you don't want to buy a used engine and inherit someone else's cast-off problems. Or maybe you are tired of smelling fuel, buying fuel, spilling fuel, running out of fuel, or hearing a smoke belching valve clattering clankasaurus hard at work, or crossing your fingers and hoping it will start when you actually need it. There are a lot of reasons to repower with electric drive. Electric is not for everyone. It has a lot of cons to balance out the obvious pros. But one con that is widely diseminated by self proclaimed experts is that it is expensive, and that is not necessarily the case at all. It is quite possible to replace that cranktankerous old infernal combustion engine very cheaply indeed. I did it, for less than $2500. I didn't know it at the time, but I could have spent even less.
