In this class, Hajime Kinoko teaches his Hip Harness for suspension with his model Maya Homerton. Function meets form in this intermediate level harness. Kinoko’s hip harness is designed in such a way that it enables comfortable suspensions for every body types without demanding a high level of flexibility. It offers sturdy hip support and reduces waist load (as opposed to Gorgone’s hip-harness designed for models with more back flexibility and who enjoy waist load), making it ideal if you’re looking to take some pressure off the lower back in bridge positions. This versatile tie is ideal for inversions and bridges and is solid enough to sustain dynamic transitions and self-suspensions. Further information regarding the suspension line: Kinoko's suspension line method for this tie is very simplified to allow the rigger to attach it easily and quickly during transition work (e.g. while the model is in a face-down and needs support quickly) and prioritizes efficiency over symmetry and balance. If you prefer, you can also use a normal Epsilon instead of the anchoring demonstrated in this tutorial.

UnCommon Core: The Causes and Consequences of the Ukraine Crisis. John J. Mearsheimer, the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor in Political Science and Co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, assesses the causes of the present Ukraine crisis, the best way to end it, and its consequences for all of the main actors. A key assumption is that in order to come up with the optimum plan for ending the crisis, it is essential to know what caused the crisis. Regarding the all-important question of causes, the key issue is whether Russia or the West bears primary responsibility. Since its founding in 1890, the University of Chicago has been a destination for rigorous inquiry and field-defining research. This transformative academic experience empowers students and scholars to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas.

Now, let us assume that we have measured all the engineering constants of an orthotropic material along principal directions. With these engineering constants we know the relation between the strain and stress components as given in Equation (3.42) and Equation (3.43). Thus, it is easy to see that we can relate the strain components to stress components through compliance matrix. Let us recall from previous lecture the stiffness matrix for orthotropic material (Equation (3.26)). The inverse of this matrix (compliance) will have the same form as the stiffness matrix. Thus, we write the relationship between strain and stress components using compliance matrix as follows

If you do not see an output below, your browser does not support WebGL. The WebGL shader code is slightly different from the GLSL code (version 1.4 ) that is used in the lecture. This is because WebGL shaders must conform to the OpenGL ES Shading Language (Version 1.0) which can be found here.

When we started working on the project, we used a lot of cutting edge tools, especially in terms of 3-D modeling and the fabrication machinery used to execute this incredibly complex design. But since then, a funny thing has happened. What we thought was cutting edge has become the norm. However, when I tell this to people (even people in the steel industry), they initially look skeptical. They tell me steel is an old, mature, smoke-stack industry. But while steel has been the material of choice for construction for most of the past century, it doesn't mean it's not a modern industry with new technology (ranging from improvements in the properties of steel to better equipment and new communication and design tools). And fortunately, on September 19, you have a chance to see for yourself.

The treatment of torsion in most Mechanics of Materials textbooks is uneven. While circular cross sections are analyzed in detail (sometimes too thoroughly), the coverage of non-circular sections is typically relegated to “advanced material” covering 4-5 pages. (In this respect Beer-Johnston- DeWolf is somewhat better than Vable, who totally omits Open Thin Wall sections)

Simple tool to download video lectures from edx.org. It requires the Python interpreter (> 2.6), youtube-dl, BeautifulSoup4 and it's platform independent. It should work fine in your Unix box, in Windows or in Mac OS X. We use youtube-dl to download video lectures from Youtube, with the main idea being that "we don't want to reinvent the wheel". Make sure you have youtube-dl installed in your system. Also, since Youtube changes its layout frequently, make sure that the version of youtube-dl that you have installed is the latest. If in doubt, run youtube-dl --update.

While Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is an incredibly powerful tool for securing Linux servers, it has a reputation for being difficult to configure. As a result, many system administrators would simply turn it off. Fortunately, the incredible amount of work completed by the SELinux community in recent years has made SELinux much more system administrator-friendly. In this session, Thomas Cameron explains the basics of SELinux, which include configuring, analyzing, and correcting SELinux errors, as well as writing basic policies to enable non-SELinux-aware applications to work on SELinux-protected systems. Real-world examples will be used to better demonstrate how to use SELinux.
