Marine Engine Maintenance

http://www.sailinginfo4all.co.uk/maintenance/engine_maintenance.htm

Saved by uncleflo on February 12th, 2022.

If you encounter problems or need to carry out routine maintenance on your boat's engine then the following steps can be taken. For most small boats that have portable outboard engines which can be easily removed, cleaning and repair work can be carried out at home or in a repair shop. Larger craft, such as cabin cruisers, powerboats and larger yachts, which are powered by diesel or gasoline inboard or inboard-outboard engines, may have to have ther engines removed for major overhauls. Once the problem has been established you may need to contact a supplier to obtain the specialist part. Watercraft Services (UK) are Manufacturers, Importers and Distributors of Aftermarket Marine Engine components, including Starters, Alternators, Exhaust Manifolds, Drive components and many other items.

seriesOne Shaft Seal Overview | Tides Marine

https://www.tidesmarine.com/seriesone/

Saved by uncleflo on April 3rd, 2021.

The seriesOne shaft seal was designed for smaller, single-engine vessels with stainless steel propeller shafts. This shaft seal fits shaft diameters from 7/8 through 1 1/4 in 1/8 increments. It can also be used on metric stainless shafting from 25mm through 30mm. The seriesOne shaft seal is covered by a one year warranty. Tides Marine suggests that all twin-engine applications use the Tides SureSeal. The seriesOne housing is produced in the same manner as the SureSeal shaft seals. However, in order to produce a shaft seal for our more cost-conscious customers, the front cap design of the seriesOne has been modified. For vessels powered by smaller diesel engines (1-3 cylinders) using softer engine mounts, the multi-convolution articulating hose is recommended. This extra flexibility compensates for increased lateral engine movement during operation.

diesel hp VS electric hp - Glen-L.com

The Boatbuilder Connection I would like to know if,when replacing a diesel engine with an electric motor someone need to look for the same HP for the electric motor as the hp the diesel had. probably not the exact same HP, because electric motors have more torque at lower RPMs than an internal cumbustion engine

Sailing Uma - THE MOTOR

Many people have written in and commented that an electric motor is only good for day sailors who weren’t going very far each day, and that you need a reliable diesel engine for long distance cruising. But we feel like the opposite is true. Since we don’t have a dock to tie up to and charge our batteries each night, we rely on sailing to recharge our system. The longer we sail and the more sun we get, the more power we make. Because we don’t have a 9-5 to return to at the end of a fun weekend out on the boat, we have no schedules requiring that we make it back to the dock on time, no matter what the wind is doing. So, we feel that an electric motor, depending on your sailing style, can be adapted to any boat. But, you have to be willing to work around the one major draw back, range.

Boat Sales UK - Running Costs

http://www.boatsales-uk.com/running_costs.htm

Saved by uncleflo on November 29th, 2018.

What does owning a canal boat cost? Every owner is different, they cruise for longer or shorter periods, moor in different areas of the country under many different conditions, some in purpose built marinas others alongside a farmers field with no facilities. The actual cost will therefore vary with the circumstances; however, the following will give a guide to the new boater. The example given is for a 55ft boat, originally built to provide a reasonably high standard of comfort including a diesel generator. It has a reasonably high usage of about 100 days per year and is maintained to a reasonably high standard without being excessive.

Using Vegetable oil as a diesel fuel - introduction

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/introduction.html

Saved by uncleflo on July 14th, 2013.

A very clever man called Rudolf Diesel invented a new type of engine that operated at a higher compression ratio and didn't have spark plugs. The first thing that he noticed was that it was about 30% more efficient than a petrol engine and, also, he could run it on vegetable oil! Very quickly, the engine became adapted for use with fossil fuels since they were, and still are, very much cheaper than vegetable oil and Rudolf's second idea became forgotten.
