Paphos International Sailing Club (known as PISC) was formed in 1999 by a group of sailing enthusiasts, the purpose being to promote all aspects of sailing and boating in Cyprus. During the early years of the Club's existence, activities for the most part involved the sharing of common interests and knowledge in a social setting. Today the Club consists of three active sections: Power Boating, Dinghy Sailing and Offshore Cruising. The aims of the Club remain the same, which is to promote sailing and boating in a friendly self-help Club with great atmosphere. We offer various boating events throughout the year, including Dinghy Regattas, Power Boat Treasure Hunts and Cruising Rallies in the Meditteranean, as well as numerous social get-togethers such as Beach Barbeques, Quiz Nights, Ten-pin Bowling and Dinner-Dances. The Club pays close attention to safety and follows RYA and Cypriot protocols in all activities on the water. We have two Rigid Inflatable safety boats manned by fully trained club members, which are on duty at every event. The Club conducts numerous courses for members in sailing proficiency and safety throughout the year.

I don't sail but this idea interests me. Why couldn't a turbine of some description be fitted to the underside or even integrated into the keel to add to energy produced That is called an hydrogenerator and many oceanic sailboats use them. On the Vendee Globe, the non stop sailing race around the world most boats have two. They are expensive, with a price around 4/5000 euros. Finally somebody is working actively in what seems to be an obvious way to generate electric electricity on sailboats: Photo-voltaic sails. Till now the technology did not allow for panels flexible enough to allow that but on last years the technology has evolved a lot. It is already possible and it will not be expensive in the future. At least a sail manufacturer is working already actively on that, the UKsails France branch.

iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It supports tuning of various parameters related to timing, buffers and protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6). For each test it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters. We know that reactive loads such as inductors and capacitors dissipate zero power, yet the fact that they drop voltage and draw current gives the deceptive impression that they actually do dissipate power. This “phantom power” is called reactive power, and it is measured in a unit called Volt-Amps-Reactive (VAR), rather than watts. The mathematical symbol for reactive power is (unfortunately) the capital letter Q. The actual amount of power being used, or dissipated, in a circuit is called true power, and it is measured in watts (symbolized by the capital letter P, as always). The combination of reactive power and true power is called apparent power, and it is the product of a circuit's voltage and current, without reference to phase angle. Apparent power is measured in the unit of Volt-Amps (VA) and is symbolized by the capital letter S.

We may love our Linux boxes, but most of us will at some point need to co-exist on a network with Windows machines, and will know Samba as the thing that enables sharing filesystems between Linux and Windows.
