Maybe you can include a few lines of utility code, and forgo the requirement. If you're only targeting more modern browsers, you might not need anything more than what the browser ships with. At the very least, make sure you know what jQuery is doing for you, and what it's not. Some developers believe that jQuery is protecting us from a great demon of browser incompatibility when, in truth, post-IE8, browsers are pretty easy to deal with on their own.

It is currently said that MD5 is partially unsafe. Taking this into consideration, I'd like to know which mechanism to use for password protection. This question, Is “double hashing” a password less secure than just hashing it once? suggests that hashing multiple times may be a good idea, whereas How to implement password protection for individual files? suggests using salt.I'm using PHP. I want a safe and fast password encryption system. Hashing a password a million times may be safer, but also slower. How to achieve a good balance between speed and safety? Also, I'd prefer the result to have a constant number of characters.

Hope this post is useful for people out here on this forum. As a small business owner and find GS1/UCC a complete rip off by charging $750 + annual fees for upc codes! I would rather save those $$$ and use it more effectively in marketing and advertising my products. I found another alternative to buy upc codes for cheap - just google the term 'upc code' or 'ean code' and you should see a list of so many different sites trying to sell upc codes from $4.99 to $120 - some with and most without any annual or set-up/registration fees.

Here is the output to some inspection that I did. With that in mind, how do I go about changing the default to 1.6 so that when I execute java -version, it tells me 1.6? I am on Fedora but I hope that alternatives works the same way on Ubuntu. You need to run update-alternatives --config java (on Fedora just alternatives --config java) to see what options you have. Then type the number of the JDK you want to use and press enter.
