Heute möchte ich euch zeigen, wie ihr mit einer Synology NAS eine private Cloud einrichten könnt. Dazu installieren wir auf einem Synology NAS System die beliebte Nextcloud Umgebung als Data Storage System. Was könnt ihr damit tun?

When setting up the NAS, you need to enter in a server name. This becomes the hostname. How can I set a FQDN (i.e. NAS-Store.example.com) without it being wiped out all the time? You can just setup a ddns name and use it to get access (I'm guessing you wanna use that name to gain outside access to your NAS). There is a DDNS tab in Control Panel > External Access. Register your name there. I don't need to worry about DDNS. That is not an issue. As I run an internal DNS on my network, I can type in the FQDN of the NAS and get to it OK. That's all fine. I would just like to be able to give the NAS an FQDN and an SSL certificate to match it, so I do not get any warnings that the cert is incorrect for the NAS when I have external clients use the Cloud Station. I don´t you buy a domain name, setup it up by using DynDns client and give the domain name to your clients to connect to, and then set your internal DNS with that same domain name to point to the internal IP, and also set the name of the NAS with that domain name.

We've finally done it: Fstoppers has moved over to a new 10 Gb/second network and server and it is incredibly fast. Let me show you what we did and how you can create your own 10 Gb/s network for a fraction of the price. For the past four years we have been using a Synology NAS (network attached storage) device to work from and to backup all of our photo and video content. It has served us well but as we hire more people, and as we begin shooting videos in 4K, it has been filling up and slowing down. It was time for us to upgrade.

A while ago I covered why I decided to purchase a NAS drive, specifically a Synology NAS. It has been a couple months since I owned this device and I’m happier than ever about this purchase. Those consumer grade NAS are intended for the small amount of device to access files from the local network, this also means if you are away from local network accessing those files will be limited to the web interface. While Synology has an excellent Web UI that lets you do many basic tasks, but access file through none traditional Web UI is cumbersome. Only it would be nice if you can mount and map the same network drives even while you are away from your home’s local network.
