Products Archive - Roof Maker

https://roof-maker.co.uk/products/

Saved by uncleflo on February 13th, 2022.

Thank you for your interest in Roof Maker. We’ve seen a lot of change in the industry since the Company first started in 2001. Roof Maker (RM) entered the rooflight market at the very beginning of the move towards wanting to allow more light into our homes. Every rooflight we sell has been designed and developed by us specifically to address maximising the flow of light into any room. In fact, in many cases adding a rooflight can dramatically improve the amount of light in dark rooms or spaces. We are and always have been passionate about our customers. When the business started, we primarily sold to consumers who were undertaking home improvements and renovations. As the number of rooflights we were selling increased, we began to capture important feedback from our customers. Consequently, each of our products has been designed and developed utilising these invaluable comments and suggestions. This has led to the creation of some of the best looking and most durable rooflights available on the market today. Every rooflight we manufacture is made to measure and built by hand in our own on-site factory. Our two-acre manufacturing facility has a 30-metre automated glass manufacturing production line, capable of producing argon or krypton filled glass units up to 3000mm x 1200mm in size. The company’s inauguration coincided with the government legislation on CO2 emissions and Roof Maker prides itself on delivering superior thermal insulation efficiencies. Energy-efficient glazing helps reduce the carbon footprint of properties. Roof Maker has seen these two areas become far more important in the purchase decision-making process than ever before. The products are designed and built using the latest technologies, with triple glazed options that provide one of the industry’s highest Ug ratings of 0.2. We can also offer double glazed units, in order to provide the option of a lighter alternative to triple-glazed products.

Product requirements document - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_requirements_document

Saved by uncleflo on January 18th, 2019.

A product requirements document (PRD) is a document containing all the requirements to a certain product.
It is written to allow people to understand what a product should do. A PRD should, however, generally avoid anticipating or defining how the product will do it in order to later allow interface designers and engineers to use their expertise to provide the optimal solution to the requirements. PRDs are most frequently written for software products, but can be used for any type of product and also for services. Typically, a PRD is created from a user's point-of-view by a user/client or a company's marketing department (in the latter case it may also be called Marketing Requirements Document (MRD)). The requirements are then analysed by a (potential) maker/supplier from a more technical point of view, broken down and detailed in a Functional Specification (sometimes also called Technical Requirements Document).

Can You Fly Drones In London?

https://www.silicon.co.uk/e-regulation/fly-drones-london-158901?inf_by=5c0a1cae671db84c038b507b

Saved by uncleflo on December 20th, 2018.

Drones are big business, and thousands of you would have received your very own for Christmas this year. The plummeting cost of components and the ease of buying remote controlled aircraft off the Internet has skyrocketed the use of consumer drones across the globe. Headlines are made every day, whether that’s new drones at CES, drones almost hitting passenger jets, or drones spying on unassuming victims. The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) has already prosecuted two drone operators in the UK for breaching safety regulations, with numerous other investigations ongoing. In October, a man was arrested for operating a drone over Manchester City’s football stadium in a match with Tottenham Hotspur.

Is making clothing in the UK really more expensive?

https://makeitbritish.co.uk/clothing/making-clothing-uk-really-expensive/

Saved by uncleflo on November 28th, 2018.

There is a myth that making clothing in the UK is much more expensive than manufacturing overseas. We’d like to dispel that myth and show you why that’s not the case, even on simple products such as T-shirts. Let’s first start by looking at all of the different costs associated with making a good quality, branded T-shirt that retails for £25. The average manufacturing cost for that T-shirt in the Far East, making a small quantity of a few hundred pieces, is around £4.24*. That price includes the fabric, cutting and stitching of the garment, labelling, pressing and packing, and the factory overhead and margin. The same T-shirt made in the UK is around £8.85. It’s seems like it’s more than double, but hear us out! When clothing is made overseas there are several other costs that need to be taken into account before that product is ready to hit the shop floor. Shipping and duty can be as much as £1.75 on a simple T-shirt, depending on the size of the order. And if the brand is buying through an agent they will take their cut too. So now you get to a more likely cost of £7 for the Far Eastern-made T-shirt, compared to the £8.85 for the British one. But it doesn’t stop there. Retailers traditionally work on a profit margin of around 60% on a branded item when they sell it in their stores. A simple way to work that out is roughly double the wholesale cost plus VAT. The problem is that retailers have to take into account the fact that not all of the product that they buy sells at full price.

How to Upgrade Your Network to 10 Gb/s and Speed Up Your Workflow

We've finally done it: Fstoppers has moved over to a new 10 Gb/second network and server and it is incredibly fast. Let me show you what we did and how you can create your own 10 Gb/s network for a fraction of the price. For the past four years we have been using a Synology NAS (network attached storage) device to work from and to backup all of our photo and video content. It has served us well but as we hire more people, and as we begin shooting videos in 4K, it has been filling up and slowing down. It was time for us to upgrade.

Running Docker in Production: three use cases and the good, the bad and the ugly

http://blog.kontena.io/docker-in-production-good-bad-ugly/

Saved by uncleflo on December 27th, 2017.

At the first Docker Helsinki Meetup for 2017 on January 17th, we heard about three interesting use cases of the ins and outs of how Docker is used in production at Solita, Zalando and Pipedrive. We also heard about the good, the bad and the ugly of running Docker in production. Solita's Use Case: Firstly, Heikki Simperi from Solita explained how his company uses Docker to handle the various apps and systems associated with their management of the Finnish National Railway Service (VR), as well as the problems they've run into when using Docker. Solita runs a variety of their own apps on Docker, including a navigator for train drivers, a construction notification system and a traffic controller app. Heikki reiterated that it's important for the downtime to be minimal when the apps involved are ones responsible for railway management and that "anything over a 3-5 min downtime causes delays for trains, but nobody dies". Most of the issues they experienced using Docker were related to building an image, having a private repository, removing or starting up a container, or a bug inside an app. Overall, the running usage of the Docker platform has been stable, with "zero downtime". The problems have lessened after upgrading to each new Docker version and they are experiencing less and less problems as time goes on. They are looking forward to the release of Docker 1.12 on a stable channel from Red Hat.

Composite Materials and Structures

http://www.ae.iitkgp.ernet.in/ebooks/chapter6.html

Saved by uncleflo on April 4th, 2015.

The heterogeneity in a composite material is introduced due to not only its bi-phase or in some cases multi-phase composition, but also laminations. This leads to a distinctly different stress strain behaviour in the case of laminates. The anisotropy caused due to fibre orientations and the resulting extension-shear and bending-twisting coupling as well as the extension-bending coupling developed due to unsymmetric lamination add to the complexities. A clear understanding of the constitutive equations of a composite laminate is thus desirable before these are used in analysis and design of composite structures. In this chapter, we first introduce to the readers the basic constitutive equations for a general three-dimensional anisotropic material with and without material symmetry, elastic constants and compliances and their relations to engineering constants, as well as transformation laws for elastic constants and compliances for both three and two-dimensional cases.

JavaScript loaders are incredibly powerful and useful utilities. I've even covered a few of them on this blog, like curljs and LABjs, and have used RequireJS and the Dojo loader on personal projects. They're super powerful but can be overkill in some cases. If you're using jQuery, there's a built in method for loading a single script which may come in handy if you'd like to lazy load a plugin or any other type of script. Here's how to use it!

Facebook has agreed to shut down a program that sparked a lawsuit alleging privacy violations, and set up a $9.5 million fund for a nonprofit foundation that will support online privacy, safety and security. The lawsuit centers around Facebook's Beacon program, which let third-party Web sites distribute "stories" about users to Facebook. Beacon was launched in November 2007 and less than a year later plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit "alleging that Facebook and its affiliates did not give users adequate notice and choice about Beacon and the collection and use of users’ personal information."

Saved by uncleflo on September 5th, 2013.

A Saudi princess has been charged with human trafficking for allegedly holding a domestic worker against her will at a California condominium, prosecutors said. Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas identified 42-year-old Meshael Alayban as a Saudi princess who was charged with one count of human trafficking. If convicted, she faces up to 12 years in prison. Alayban was arrested after a Kenyan woman carrying a suitcase flagged down a bus and told a passenger she believed she was a human trafficking victim. The passenger helped her contact police, who searched the condo where Alayban and her family were staying, authorities said.

Why engineers are good in bed | WollyDong.com

http://www.wollydong.com/e/why-engineers-are-good-in-bed/

Saved by uncleflo on August 27th, 2012.

Why engineers are good in bed – is an age-old belief, said to be linked more to the actions of a PR company and a wannabe model in the 1980s, than any one case study. Engineers are said to have an impeccable conduct record inside the covers of a bed. Once in a bed, engineers curl up, sleep and will not be heard to snore even once throughout the night. The reasons for this are still up for discussion between academics, although tiredness and workload have been mooted as a generally acceptable reason for this.
