Have you ever wondered why you’re getting calls from random 1-800 telemarketers that you’ve never heard of? Or better yet, a text pops up asking you to click on a sketchy weblink? Obviously, you never asked for these companies to contact you. So, how does this happen? The reality is, every time you include your real phone number on a form, whether it’s at a local fair to win a trip to Hawaii, or on a social media profile, the companies receiving your information may well be farming out this information to other companies that, in turn, want to market products to you. Even if you’ve asked this first company NOT to share your info with other companies, someone who’s uninterested in your consent could still have gathered up your number through sketchy means. Now once your real number is out, consider that it could be placed on more call lists that these companies might sell to other companies that could well go on to sell them to even more companies. Based on this, you can begin to get a sense of how one small, innocuous form you filled out has now translated into texts from a Romanian area code – whose message insists you click a weblink to find out the link brings you to “someone who likes you”.

Using solar power only, the catamaran "sun21" undertook the first motorized crossing of the Atlantic with solar power to promote the great potential of this technology for ocean navigation. The "sun21" arrived in New York City on 8 May 2007, 3 pm, having covered about 7000 sea miles. The journey of sun21 was made possible by the association transatlantic21. After the activities in New York, the association donated the solar boat to the WWF Adena/Madrid. The Sun21, now called WWF Solar, has been touring Spain since summer 2010. Additional information about it's first trip for a campaign in Murcia from July 16th-26th is available here (Spanish only). The crew of the sun21 was awarded by the Guinness World Records for the fastest transatlantic crossing made completely under solar power.

Richard and Roz Smith seem rather surprised to find themselves on board their Oyster 56, bobbing gently on a pontoon at Shamrock Quay, Southampton. It is the boat they have been refitting for the past nine months ahead of a “four-or-five-year” circumnavigation. They are surprised in part because the long, expensive fit-out work is finally drawing to a close (although there are winch bits on the saloon table and air-con ducting protruding from the panelling). But also surprised to be taking off for such an ambitious trip by themselves.

Are you interested in visiting our state? In recent years, our little home in the Pacific Northwest has gotten a lot of attention. We’re flattered. People can’t seem to say enough about it. And a lot of the things they’ve been saying are true. We’ve partnered with Roadtrippers to provide a great way to plan a trip around Oregon. Packed with all the great resources you’ll find on TravelOregon.com, the Oregon Roadtrippers experience gets you from Point A to Point B (and C, D, and E), suggests stuff to do on the way, and let’s you take it with you on your smartphone. Not familiar with U.S. geography? Oregon is on the West Coast, right between Washington and California. Some people think it’s the best thing about the West Coast, and of course they’re right. Made up of seven diverse regions, Oregon has the ocean, mountains, valleys, high desert, cities, small towns, and almost everything in between.
