Porn is a big industry. There aren't many sites on the Internet that can rival the traffic of its biggest players. And juggling this immense traffic is tough. To make things even harder, much of the content served from porn sites is made up of low latency live streams rather than simple static video content. But for all of the challenges involved, rarely have I read about the developers who take them on. So I decided to write about my own experience on the job. And juggling this immense traffic is tough. It's a usage-tracking site, and you could worry if you don't want your usage of applications from Adobe, and Apple's iTunes Ministore, tracked. Omniture has been thrust unwillingly into the spotlight because a blogger noticed (tinyurl.com/34oxm8) that when you start up an Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) application, it tries to contact what looks like an IP address on your network: 192.168.112.2O7.net.

Apple has a long relationship with Adobe. In fact, we met Adobe’s founders when they were in their proverbial garage. Apple was their first big customer, adopting their Postscript language for our new Laserwriter printer. Apple invested in Adobe and owned around 20% of the company for many years. The two companies worked closely together to pioneer desktop publishing and there were many good times. Since that golden era, the companies have grown apart. Apple went through its near death experience, and Adobe was drawn to the corporate market with their Acrobat products. Today the two companies still work together to serve their joint creative customers – Mac users buy around half of Adobe’s Creative Suite products – but beyond that there are few joint interests.

Adobe's Flash plugin cannot be included in Fedora because it is not free/libre and open source software. Adobe does release a version of the Flash plugin for Linux, and this can be used in Firefox, Konqueror and other popular Internet browsers. When Adobe releases a newer version of the Linux Flash plugin, it makes packages available for Fedora, but Fedora cannot include Adobe's plugin as long as it is unavailable as free and open source software.

First, create a generic function that takes a UIComponent as a parameter. Create a new BitmapData object, and draw the contents of the target UIComponent into the new BitmapData object. Then, return the new BitmapData object.

You want to use the BitmapData class’s draw method to get a “copy” of some thing in Flex. You simply create a new BitmapData and then use the draw method and all is well right? Not quite. If you are call the draw method on something that has transparentcy, like a .png image, you might notice that now all of your transparent pixels are white. This is not a bug it is simply because you have not properly set up your BitmapData.

Flex doesn’t support adding child components to containers at multiple levels. I.e. it’s not possible to create an mxml component of type HBox with some components declared in mxml inside it, and then use that component somewhere else and put another set of components inside it there also. If you try to do this then you get a runtime error saying: “Multiple sets of visual children have been specified for this component” The reason that this isn’t supported in flex is that there’s not really any way for the mxml compiler to know what to do with the additional components. Any option taken would result in numerous possible conflicts and special cases.

Simple visual components are subclasses of existing Flex components that modify the appearance of the component by using skins or styles, or add new functionality to the component. For example, you add a new event type to a Button control, or modify the default styles or skins of a DataGrid control. For more information, see Simple Visual Components in ActionScript. In advanced components, you typically perform the following actions: Modify the visual appearance or visual characteristics of an existing component; Create a composite component that encapsulates two or more components within it; Create a component by creating a subclass of the UIComponent class.

FXG 1.0 describes an XML-based graphics interchange format for the Flash Platform. FXG contains high-level graphical and text primitives that can be used to create, group, transform and visually modify basic vector and bitmap shapes. The FXG rendering model follows very closely the Flash Player 10 rendering model and exposes all graphics capabilities of the Flash platform as well as offering expandable support to accommodate future capabilities of the Flash Player. The specification below dives into the technical details governing every element of FXG 1.0.

Adding graphics to your applications can make them more attractive and usable. In many cases, you might want to add graphics that are vector-based, and not import images that don’t scale well. You can create vector based graphics in Flex by using one of the following APIs: FXG, MXML graphics, FXG is a declarative syntax for defining static graphics. You typically use a graphics tool such as Adobe Illustrator to export an FXG document, and then use the FXG document as an optimized component in your application. FXG graphics are used by the mobile skin classes because they are so lightweight.

In the Flex 4 skinning model, the skin controls all visual elements of a component, including layout. The new architecture gives developers greater control over what their components look like a structured and tool-friendly way. Previously, MX components that used the Halo theme for their skins defined their look and feel primarily through style properties. Spark skins can contain multiple elements, such as graphic elements, text, images, and transitions. Skins support states, so that when the state of a component changes, the skin changes as well. Skin states integrate well with transitions so that you can apply effects to one or more parts of the skins without adding much code. You typically write Spark skin classes in MXML. You do this with MXML graphics tags (or FXG components) to draw the graphic elements, and specify child components (or subcomponents) using MXML or ActionScript.

Cairngorm lays the foundations for delivering successful Flex and AIR projects. The latest Cairngorm3 consists of: Guidelines that describe our preferred client-side architecture; Tools that help to ensure quality, consistency and efficiency when applying Cairngorm; Libraries that reduce code by solving recurring problems. In contrast to the earlier Cairngorm 2 framework, many parts of the latest Cairngorm 3 apply across frameworks. So if you're using Parsley, Spring ActionScript, PureMVC, Swiz, Mate or another library on your projects, Cairngorm is complementary. For more information, read the Getting Started Guide, or begin exploring the guidelines, tools and libraries.

To activate a window, call the NativeWindow activate() method. Activating a window brings the window to the front, gives it keyboard and mouse focus, and, if necessary, makes it visible by restoring the window or setting the visible property to true. Activating a window does not change the ordering of other windows in the application. Calling the activate() method causes the window to dispatch an activate event.

Creating an irregular shaped window has always been a challenging Job for windows developers. But, Flex not only makes it easier for Windows but for other OS like , Mac or Linux. I saw certain web pages which teaches you this art , but, rather disappointing as the information is either incomplete or so old, which does not work in the latest version of Flex.
