HHVM is an open-source virtual machine designed for executing programs written in Hack and PHP. HHVM uses a just-in-time (JIT) compilation approach to achieve superior performance while maintaining the development flexibility that PHP provides. HHVM supports Hack, PHP 5 and the major features of PHP 7. We are aware of minor incompatibilities, so please open issues when you find them. HHVM also supports many extensions as well. HHVM should be used together with a webserver like the built in, easy to deploy Proxygen, or a FastCGI-based webserver on top of nginx or Apache.

Sometimes there's a need to ensure only one copy of a script runs, i.e prevent two or more copies running simultaneously. Imagine an important cronjob doing something very important, which will fail or corrupt data if two copies of the called program were to run at the same time. To prevent this, a form of MUTEX (mutual exclusion) lock is needed. The basic procedure is simple: The script checks if a specific condition (locking) is present at startup, if yes, it's locked - the scipt doesn't start. This article describes locking with common UNIX® tools. There are other special locking tools available, But they're not standardized, or worse yet, you can't be sure they're present when you want to run your scripts. A tool designed for specifically for this purpose does the job much better than general purpose code.

Share your largest files. Don't be limited by email. With FileRun, you can share even the largest files with a simple link. Create a secure link to any file that can be shared with anyone via email. Share entire folders with others, so they can not only see all your content, but also upload their own. Send file requests. File requests allow you to collect and receive files from anyone, right into your FileRun user account, with just a link. File requests are ideal for receiving a large file or collection of files, collecting photos after a special event, and requesting submissions from coworkers and clients. Click here to see how a request looks like. No import required. Just like you do with an FTP server, point FileRun to where you keep the files on your server and you will get instant web access to them. Want to access your files also by FTP, SMB or WebDAV (server included)? No problem. Upload, download or manage the same files. All changes made to the files using FTP or other method reflect via FileRun without delay. Your files everywhere. Access your files from wherever you are using the free mobile apps. Sync files from your desktop using the free desktop apps. Access via WebDAV. FileRun comes with its own embedded WebDAV server. No server configuration needed.

Novell/SUSE Linux uses a system of scripts to determine which services to run on system boot. These scripts exist in /etc/init.d/ (or the symbolic link /etc/rc.d/), and are referred to as 'init scripts.' They help dictate which services are active in each runlevel, and also allow the services to be manually controlled. For more information on runlevels, see this article. Each service that ships with Novell/SUSE Linux installs a script in /etc/init.d/. If a custom service is installed it may not have a init script. This article explains how to create these scripts.

A Unix daemon is a program that runs in the “background,” enabling you to do other work in the “foreground,” and is independent of control from a terminal. Daemons can either be started by a process, such as a system startup script, where there is no controlling terminal, or by a user at a terminal without “tying up” that terminal as the daemon runs. But which daemons can you safely play with? Which should you leave running?

Today the 4th of September, Youtify, the world's leading web music player with built in crowdfunding, announces a complete redesign that is available from today on. This new version also integrates Last.fm to give users the ability to scrobble and get recommendations. I am very happy with our new design, says Karl Tannergård one of the co-founders of Youtify. We have been working on making it easier to navigate and be visually appealing for our users. In Youtify v15, the new design gives more space to the video and playlists. Since the new icon set is font-based, Youtify scales up beautifully when increasing the browser's font size. This is useful for running Youtify on a big screen.

Safe soaring operations depend upon good coordination between the glider pilot, tow pilot, and ground crew. The following pages comprise a web-based course on wingrunning--from ground handling through the actual launch of the glider. The final section of this course is a quiz. Successful completion of this quiz will earn the student a certificate which can be presented to soaring operations as evidence of the knowledge training required to be a safe and efficient wing runner. This course is based on the standard signals and operating procedures of the Soaring Society of America, which may be found in the Soaring Flight Manual, available through the SSA and many U.S. soaring operations. Newly certificated wingrunners should receive practical instruction on wingrunning at their particular soaring operation before putting their knowledge into practice, as special circumstances often require unique signals and procedures to be used.

Streaming WebM to display in browser with HTML5 is currently quite problematic – none of the well-known streaming servers support WebM at the moment. Current popular options are either Java-based stream-m and experimental 2.4-beta release of Icecast. Lesser known option is to use FFmpegs FFserver to stream WebM video. For this to work you need a decently current FFmpeg release (this article was written using stable 1.0 release) compiled with libvpx and ffserver support. New builds for FFmpeg are available for Windows and Linux.

Since the introduction of Upstart some time in 2006, or more relevantly 9.10 Karmic where most of the system services were converted, the boot process changed somewhat. The following information is tested on 11.04 Natty. Please note that generally, you can use either traditional sysvinit scripts and the methods of working with them as well as the new upstart configs and the command: "service" interchangeably. It is however recommended you use the new upstart methods which are both forward and backward compatible.
