Q&A: Radar Scanner Position - Attainable Adventure Cruising

Question: What is your preference regarding the best place to mount a radar antenna? As far as we can tell from the pictures of Morgan’s Cloud you have mounted yours on a pole aft. Our previous experience with radars tells us that the antenna should be as high and free as possible. Wouldn’t a radar antenna mounted on the mast just above the first spreaders give better range and a more detailed radar picture than if it were mounted lower? It also appears from the pictures that your antenna isn’t mounted in a way that makes it able to tilt so that it can compensate for heel of the boat when sailing. Answer: First off, we should say that we view radar as the most important piece of electronic equipment on Morgan’s Cloud—yes, more important than GPS, since we can find our way with a compass and sextant but we can’t see unlit objects at night or through fog—so we have given a lot of thought to the position and installation of our radar scanner. We prefer a pole mounted aft for the scanner over mast mounting.

Electric Drift Trike - COLINFURZE

Formua E asked me if I I could take an electric vehicle to the Rome Formula E Race to ride around their track. Having only my Mr Bean Armchair, the tools came out and an electric drift trike was created. I have previously made a motorised 125cc drift trike and this electric version is not to better it, but to add an alternative. Over the three years of the motorised version being on Youtube, I have been sent loads of pictures from people that have followed the build video to make their own and I hope that this build will also tempt people to create their own. This particular build is a pricey one (around £2000) however in the future I hope to build a no weld, cheeper version.

If you have followed my blog over the past few years, you may have read some of the articles I wrote on the subject of tethered shooting with your Canon DSLR together with either a tablet or smartphone. I love tethered shooting with portable devices, mainly because they are small and easy to carry around, I can trigger the camera remotely and I can see a larger review image on the remote screen afterwards. In fact, my most widely read blog post is one I wrote in November 2013 titled Tethered Shooting With Your Canon DSLR And Android Tablet. But since then, a lot has changed. Many of the newer Canon DSLR bodies now offer Wi-Fi, such as the Canon 6D, 80D, 70D, 1DX Mark II (via the Canon WFT-E8 adapter), all versions of the Rebel T6, and the 7D Mark II (via a recently released Canon W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter). But best of all, the newest Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, which was just released last month, is Canon’s first high-end, full frame DSLR to have full Wi-Fi built in. So an updated post on this subject was needed.

A set of boxes is used to indicate how many bits of entropy a section of the password provides. The comic is laid out with 6 panels arranged in a 3x2 grid. On each row, the first panel explains the breakdown of a password, the second panel shows how long it would take for a computer to guess, and the third panel provides an example scene showing someone trying to remember the password.

StereoVision is a package for working with stereo cameras, especially with the intent of using them to produce 3D point clouds. The focus is on performance, ease of usability, and the ability to construct 3D imaging setups cheaply. For more information, see the Sphinx autodocumentation, built with the Makefile included in doc. StereoVision relies heavily on OpenCV. If you’re not sure about what a given variable does or what values would make sense for it and no explanation is provided in the StereoVision documentation, refer to OpenCV’s documentation in order to better understand how they work.

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted. PhotoRec is free - this open source multi-platform application is distributed under GNU General Public License (GPLV v2+). PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, an application for recovering lost partitions on a wide variety of file systems and making non-bootable disks bootable again.
