The 2022 Commission meeting of the IWC will be held at the Grand Bernardin Resort, Portoroz, Slovenia Estimates of current population size, known as abundance estimates, are derived from a combination of fieldwork and computer modelling. Vessel-based and aerial sighting surveys, acoustic monitoring, and analysis of individual animal markings are techniques used independently or in conjunction with each other to count whales. The information gathered from this fieldwork is used as the basis for population modelling which produces an abundance estimate. In 2017, the IWC Scientific Committee established a new expert group to review and agree all the Abundance Estimates submitted to the Scientific Committee. This new process ensures quality and consistency across all the estimates used by the IWC.

Surveying in caves is a hard and thankless task. We spend hours in uncomfortable locations working to obtain the data we bring back to create cave maps. However in several cases all the hard work put into the survey and sketching of caves has been lost. Either the data itself is lost due to a catastrophe or negligence or the project leader loses interest in the cave, project, or in several cases, caving altogether, and walks away with data. I started caving and mapping in Rockcastle and Jackson Counties Kentucky. Over time I saw many great mapping efforts disappear as people went on to other things, and the maps and data were not preserved. This site was started as an example how the internet can preserve and make available data over long periods of time. It started with Rockcastle and Jackson maps that I had worked on, then friends maps, and now is trying to capture the entire wealth of cave maps in these counties as well as surrounding counties.

Converting cave survey notes into a finished map With a set of cave survey sketch notes in hand, the next steps for converting those notes into a beautiful and accurate map can be daunting. Some cave cartographers spend more time in front of a computer screen than they do underground. Historically survey data was compiled with a calculator, and maps were drafted on mylar sheets with pencil and rapidiograph. Virtually everyone today is using cave survey data management and digital drafting software for the improved efficiency, quality, and ability to make changes and updates. In most cases the data management and drafting are handled by different applications. I recommend developing an efficient workflow for handling new survey data.

Once the seller has accepted your offer, ask them to take it off the market. They don’t have to agree to this, but doing so will shut out other potential buyers. Now you need to move fast – the seller will want to see progress so try to avoid any unnecessary delays in getting the surveys and other legal work done. Complete the lender’s application form and send them the documents they require – this will include proof of your ID, evidence of your earnings, proof of your address over the last few months and your bank statements, so have these ready. The lender will then arrange for a valuation to be carried out on the property. This allows them to work out how fair the amount you’ve asked to borrow is compared to what they deem the property to be worth.

During my three decades as a marine surveyor, I've always been amazed about two aspects of restoring old boats what, in the marine trade, is known as a refit. First is that the people who can best afford to do them, usually don't. Followed by those who can't afford such projects are usually the ones that attempt them. Such projects usually go wrong because the owner failed to appreciate the costs, and to estimate them in advance. There are no good deals on fixer uppers with boats. There is just expensive and more expensive. Money is the name of the game, and if you haven't got it, then it's a mistake to think that you can do a refit on the cheap.

For a lot of people the choice of the Mail Transfer Agent is important. A bad choice can mean lost time and money, lower reliability and increased risk to networks. A good choice can, depending on the architecture of your mail system, remain substantially unchanged for years. If you're designing a major mail system then you're also going to be asking yourself the question should I use more than one kind of MTA, and if so which should go where? Hopefully this article can help.

Engagement: The Final Frontier. Every social media executives ultimate goal. Boost engagement. It works wonders on every other metric and shows those who you report to that you know what you are doing. Yet, is engagement what you should be aiming for? Everybody knows that recruiting a new customer costs more than retaining an existing one. So surely the same applies to social media too? Yes, of course. So actually rather than focusing on new markets, new audiences and new products or services to sell to new customers you should be focusing your time, money and attention on how to excite those customers you already have. How?
