Learn how to code creative animations using SVG paths and the getPointAtLength() function. SVG is a very neat format to display any illustration, icon or logo on a website. Furthermore, they can be animated in CSS or JavaScript to make them more attractive. But SVG can also be used for their data only, without the visual! Let me explain… An SVG is a vector image format, which means it is not made of coloured pixels, but math functions that, once interpreted, can be rendered on screen. Since the browser must convert the file from functions to actual pixels, it also let us access a wide variety of methods to either manipulate, or retrieve data from the math. In today’s article, we will explore the function getPointAtLength() and see how we can use the data of an SVG path for creative use cases such as the demo below.

Animations make websites look more polished and exciting, and help improve user experience. Explore how the combined potential of SVG and CSS can be leveraged to create animations without relying on external libraries. Animations are a ubiquitous part of the web. Unlike the flashing GIF images that plagued websites in the internet's earlier days, today's animations are more subtle and tasteful. Designers and front-end specialists use them to make websites look more polished, enhance the user experience, call attention to important elements, and convey information. Web developers can benefit from combining the power of SVG and CSS to create animations without using external libraries. This SVG animation tutorial shows how to build custom animations for real-world projects. Before animating SVGs with CSS, developers need to understand how SVGs work internally. Fortunately, it's similar to HTML: We define SVG elements with XML syntax and style them with CSS, just as if they were HTML.

A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace is an impressive structure composed of layers of building elements and ornamentation, from its 14th and 15th century original foundations to the significant Renaissance and opulent Mannerist adjunctions. The structure is made up of three large blocks, incorporating previous constructions. The wing towards the St. Mark’s Basin is the oldest, rebuilt from 1340 onwards. The wing towards St. Mark’s Square was built in its present form from 1424 onwards. The canal-side wing, housing the Doge’s apartments and many government offices, dates from the Renaissance and was built between 1483 and 1565.

I have read that offsetLeft and offsetTop do not work properly in all browsers. jQuery.offset() is supposed to provide an abstraction for this to provide the correct value xbrowser. What I am trying to do is get the coordinates of where an element was clicked relative to the top-left of the element. Problem is that jQuery.offset().top is actually giving me a decimal value in FFX 3.6 (in IE and Chrome, the two values match). http://jsfiddle.net/htCPp/ exhibits the issue. If you click the bottom image, jQuery.offset().top returns 327.5, but offsetTop returns 328. I would like to think that offset() is returning the correct value and I should use it because it will work across browsers. However, people obviously cannot click decimals of pixels. Is the proper way to determine the true offset to Math.Round() the offset that jQuery is returning? Should I use offsetTop instead, or some other method entirely?

SVG files, especially those exported from various editors, usually contain a lot of redundant and useless information. This can include editor metadata, comments, hidden elements, default or non-optimal values and other stuff that can be safely removed or converted without affecting the SVG rendering result.

In an ideal world there would always be a clean way of displaying data supplied by a third party on your site. Two examples would be getting the data in JSON or XML format from a Web Service and having an API to code against. But you don’t always have any of those options. Sometimes the only way of incorporating data from a third party is by loading it in an iframe element. A few examples are financial reports, e-commerce applications, and ticket booking applications. Using an iframe is not ideal for many reasons, one of which is that it can make multiple sets of scrollbars appear on the page. Not only does it look ugly, it also makes the site less user-friendly. But there is a workaround.

The JavaScript standard library is notoriously small. In fact, it is so small that the Array prototype doesn't even define a method for removing a specific element from an array. Because there's no such built-in method, developers have to create their own version if they want to remove a specific array element.

Did you know that you don't have to link to an external image file when using an <img> element in HTML, or declaring a background-image in CSS? You can embed the image data directly into the document with data URIs. Basically, a super long string of gibberish characters. It's not gibberish to the browser though of course. This data is interpreted as the type of file you are saying it is.

C = 4*m + 3*v + 2*(i - f) - 2*a. Anxiety is one of the key elements in the MarketingExperiments Conversion Heuristic. In our Landing Page Optimization Online Course, anxiety is defined as “a psychological concern stimulated by a given element in the sales or sign-up process.” Essentially, anxiety is a negative element on your landing page that reduces the likelihood that a potential customer will take a desired action. It’s no big surprise that experiments with our Research Partners have found third-party privacy and security seals help reduce customer anxiety and improve conversion. So, let’s take a look at two types of seals that can help you reduce customer anxiety.

On this course, you will be using a lot of maths. Sometimes, you may need clarification on how to use maths for a particular problem. Luckily, you can use LaTeX on the forums to display maths in a readable format (as opposed to unwieldy formats like 4*10^6 which can be difficult to parse). There are a lot of different commands for LaTeX, but you will only need a few in this course. To start using LaTeX, you first need to type $$ - this is telling the forums software that whatever you type in between the dollar signs is LaTeX and should be displayed as LaTeX

When we started working on the project, we used a lot of cutting edge tools, especially in terms of 3-D modeling and the fabrication machinery used to execute this incredibly complex design. But since then, a funny thing has happened. What we thought was cutting edge has become the norm. However, when I tell this to people (even people in the steel industry), they initially look skeptical. They tell me steel is an old, mature, smoke-stack industry. But while steel has been the material of choice for construction for most of the past century, it doesn't mean it's not a modern industry with new technology (ranging from improvements in the properties of steel to better equipment and new communication and design tools). And fortunately, on September 19, you have a chance to see for yourself.
