Can I process the JWST data better than NASA?

The first round of JWST data was made public just one day after the release of the first images. In this video, I show the best method for downloading the data using the MAST archive, and then give an overview of how I went about processing! This work is based [in part] on observations made with the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. The data were obtained from the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS 5-03127 for JWST.

Converting cave survey notes into a finished map With a set of cave survey sketch notes in hand, the next steps for converting those notes into a beautiful and accurate map can be daunting. Some cave cartographers spend more time in front of a computer screen than they do underground. Historically survey data was compiled with a calculator, and maps were drafted on mylar sheets with pencil and rapidiograph. Virtually everyone today is using cave survey data management and digital drafting software for the improved efficiency, quality, and ability to make changes and updates. In most cases the data management and drafting are handled by different applications. I recommend developing an efficient workflow for handling new survey data.

Mounting NFS on a Windows Client

Complete the following steps to mount NFS on a Windows client: The UID and GID values are set in the Windows Registry and are global on the Windows NFS client box. This solution might not work well if your Windows box has multiple users who each need access to NFS with their own permissions, but there is no obvious way to avoid this limitation. To set up the Windows NFS client, mount the cluster, map a network drive, and configure the user ID (UID) and group ID (GID). The Windows client must access NFS using a valid UID and GID from the Linux domain. Mismatched UID or GID will result in permissions problems when MapReduce jobs try to access files that were copied from Windows over an NFS share. Because of Windows directory caching, there may appear to be no .snapshot directory in each volume's root directory. As a workaround, force Windows to re-load the volume's root directory by updating its modification time (for example, by creating an empty file or directory in the volume's root directory).

Founded in 1996 and located in San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Many of our GeoIP database products are offered in a CSV format, in addition to our binary format. The primary use case for these CSV files is to import them into a SQL database or other data store. This documentation details the contents of every CSV database. Some of our CSV files are shipped as zipped archives. Others are gzipped. In some cases, we offer a zip archive with multiple CSV files. The primary file will contain IDs referring to rows in other files. Each of these files can be imported directly into different database tables, and the referencing IDs will function as foreign keys.

If you need to compress a large part of your hard drive to backup on a filesharing site or backup something larger than a cd/dvd you can use rar to split the file/files into multiple parts, you often see rar files on warez, torrents, and ftp's, here are the directions on creating these files and extracting them.

Here you can download the freedb database. The complete archives are available as .tar.bz2, the update-archives are available as .tar.bz2 files. If you don't know what a .bz2-archive is and how to uncompress it, visit the official bzip2 and libbzip2 home page. Please bear in mind that the UNIX format archives cannot be completely extracted on a FAT file system (see FAQ for more info). If you want to extract them on an NTFS file system, take a look at our FAQ on how to do so properly.
