Cell phones are like a drivers license. It is really hard to function in the modern world without one, but they reveal a lot of information about you that you might not want to share.

The Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (“the Authority”) was established by the Transfer of Functions (Isle of Man Financial Services Authority) Order 2015. As well as establishing the Authority, the order transfers the functions of the Financial Supervision Commission and the Insurance and Pensions Authority to the Authority. Click here for more information on the merger process. This area of the website contains searchable registers of entities regulated by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority. It also contains details of former regulated entities that have been regulated by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority under the Financial Services Act 2008. The registers are searchable by the current name or the trading name of the regulated entity. Type in the name, or part of the name of a regulated entity and click 'search'. You can also check for previous names by using the Companies Registry Public View site. For entities regulated under the Financial Services Act 2008, the online register is the statutory public record. For entities etc regulated under the Insurance Act 2008, the Collective Investment Schemes Act 2008 and the Retirement Benefit Schemes Act 2000, the statutory public registers are available from the Authority, but the online record summarises this content. I realise when I first released this post, it was January, a time of year that not everyone is throwing themselves into water without a wetsuit. A lot of you have been asking about sustainable swimwear options again over the past month with this never-ending heatwave we are having, so I thought I’d update and repost this guide. With environmental issues becoming much more prominent in the mainstream media, a quick google into the textiles and fashion industries will provide you with endless reasons to choose slow fashion. If you didn't follow Fashion Revolution and the #whomademyclothes movement go and check it out, alongside the documentary The True Cost. The price is often more because these companies pay workers a fair living wage, and source sustainably grown and produced materials. I've been trying to buy everything I wear consciously and not fall into the consumerism trap too often (although I'm occasionally slip up and find myself on the high street, damn those glittery topshop dinosaur socks). I try to follow the guide lines:

Applications for unmanned aircraft operational authorisations

The process to follow when applying to the CAA for an operational authorisation (a permission or an exemption) depends on the relative complexity of the authorisation that you are seeking: Applications for relatively ‘simple’ operational authorisations, which are commonly referred to as a ‘Standard Permission’, are addressed via an online application process: A ‘Standard Permission’ enables a person to conduct commercial operations with a small unmanned aircraft (drone) and also permits operations within a congested area. Applicants will be required to provide all documents and payment online (credit /debit card only ) before submitting their application. Applications for more complex operational authorisations, commonly referred to as ‘Non-Standard Permissions’, or those that require a specific Exemption from the Air Navigation Order are addressed via a more traditional ‘paper based’ application form, the SRG 1320.

Philippe Dufour says that people come to him because he creates watches that cannot be found elsewhere. "I'm obliged to innovate" he says pragmatically. But do not feel sorry for him. The challenge to create the world's first double escapement wristwatch was seized gladly. The aim of the double escapement is to compensate for errors in the rate of the watch, produced by the effect of gravity on the regulating organs. In this sense, it challenges the existing champion, the tourbillon device, invented by Breguet in 1801. Philippe Dufour's double escapement has proved already to be effective. Compared with the tourbillon, it possesses the additional quality of retaining all its efficiency when reduced to the dimensions of a wristwatch. The key to the concept is a complex differential system, positioned, with the two escapement mechanisms, on the fourth wheel. The two balance wheels operate completely independently of each other. The differential system averages out the differences between them, and thus reduces the potential error in rate by half. The differential system alone, without the regulating organs, has twenty-one parts, twice as many as the tourbillon. And yet the entire assembly is only 30 mm in diameter, and 4 mm high. It fits neatly into a 34 mm watch. How may the Duality be recognised? This master of complications says that, aesthetically speaking, he likes simplicity. For the Duality this means a smooth, finely polished case in yellow gold, rose gold, white gold or platinum. A silvered dial carries Dauphine-style hands pointing to raised hour markers and Arabic numerals. A distinctive feature of the dial is the unusual placing of the small seconds-hand at half-past seven, reflecting the layout of the movement. The strap is in top quality, hand stitched crocodile leather.

There isn't much that Sylvio Mancusi can't do in the ocean. From surfing to kitesurfing to SUPing to towing in this Brazilian sea gypsy never met a set of wind and swell conditions he didn't like. He travels the world with his young family searching for big waves and favorable filming conditions in which to ply his trades. This week Sylvio and the fam rock up in Nazaré, Portugal for a big swell. Praia do Norte is known for giant waves, but it's not known for perfect waves. Sylvio and Garrett McNamara spend their session trying to find a few peeks without getting cleaned up in the process. It's hair-raising stuff. That would be the end of the video for most people, but Sylvio is not most people. When the wind picks up he takes the kite out in 40-knot offshores and horizontal rain.
