This trial is the first time that autonomous vehicles have been deployed on a UK airbase by the RAF. The trial sees Academy of Robotics' Kar-go Delivery Bot making deliveries of tools, equipment and supplies to locations within RAF Brize Norton, near Oxford. RAF personnel then go out to meet the vehicle and a hatch is automatically released enabling them to collect the package.

Without the ability to keep secrets, individuals lose the capacity to distinguish themselves from others, to maintain independent lives, to be complete and autonomous persons. This does not mean that a person actually has to keep secrets to be autonomous, just that she must possess the ability to do so. The ability to keep secrets implies the ability to disclose secrets selectively, and so the capacity for selective disclosure at one’s own discretion is important to individual autonomy as well. Secrecy is a form of power. The ability to protect a secret, to preserve one’s privacy, is a form of power. The ability to penetrate secrets, to learn them, to use them, is also a form of power. Secrecy empowers, secrecy protects, secrecy hurts. The ability to learn a person’s secrets without his or her knowledge — to pierce a person’s privacy in secret — is a greater power still. Cell phones are like a drivers license. It is really hard to function in the modern world without one, but they reveal a lot of information about you that you might not want to share.

(CNN)If you're sick and tired of arriving home after a hard day at work to find yet another online delivery has gone AWOL, then a new autonomous delivery vehicle could soon be here to help. Kar-go is the brainchild of the United Kingdom-based Academy of Robotics, which describes it as "Europe's first road-worthy autonomous delivery vehicle." Using AI, this autonomous delivery vehicle offers customers an app -- similar to one used when ordering a taxi -- allowing them to choose when and where their packages are delivered. Earlier this year, Chinese startup Neolix also began mass production of its own autonomous vans, while in Houston last month, Domino's Pizza partnered with self-driving company Nuro to deliver takeaway food to customers' doors.

Tracking of stationary and moving objects is a critical function of Autonomous driving technologies. Signals from several sensors, including camera, radar and lidar (Light Detection and Ranging device based on pulsed laser) sensors are combined to estimate the position, veloctiy, trajectory and class of objects i.e. other vehicles and pedestrians. A good introduction to this topic can be found at: http://www.onenewspage.com/video/20161006/5695999/Mercedes-Benz-presents-the-Sensor-Fusion-at-2016.htm

The Time-Lapse Camera Package is a complete system for documenting construction projects, animal behavior monitoring, analyzing environmental changes, and an amazing variety of other long-term outdoor photographic tasks. This equipment will yield significantly higher resolution and higher quality images than can be achieved with “web camera” equipment, and is designed to be completely autonomous. No connection to AC power, computers, networks, or video recorders are needed. You own the equipment, and there are no monthly charges! Except for a few mounting screws to suit your particular application, everything you need is included and completely assembled. The system can be installed in as little as a few minutes.

If you have no experience with the model airplane, flying can also easily practiced in the flight simulator PC software (AeroSIM-RC). Various MikroKopter models can hereby be realistic flown using the actual remote control system. So you quickly get a feeling for the handling of the transmitter and the aircraft. With a practice session in this program you can easily enhance the pilot skill "step-by-step".

Rinspeed will present its new sQuba, the worlds first diving car, at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6-16). The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 10 meters (33 feet). An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving. When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.

Paul Furgale is the Deputy Director of the Autonomous Systems Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich). His current research is focused on long-term autonomy for mobile robotic systems, including perception, mapping, localization, and planning over long timescales and in highly dynamic environments. He is the scientific coordinator for V-Charge, a European project and industry/academic collaboration that seeks to develop automated valet parking and charging of electric vehicles in mixed traffic. He received a PhD (2011) from the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) where he developed algorithms to support over-the-horizon sample return for planetary exploration rovers as part of the Autonomous Space Robotics Lab. His PhD work was field tested in the Canadian High Arctic and subsequently integrated into several Canadian Space Agency rover prototypes.
