The Swede 55 was conceived in 1975 by naval architect Knud Reimers of Denmark. He is best known for his design of square meter class yachts and the Udell International. The Swede 55 was a stock design and to this day remains a very popular boat. The Swede 55 was built by Fiskastra Varb shipyard. Upon request of some of Stockholms KSSS members, Reimers designed the Swede 55 as a cruising ocean racing square meter yacht. The Swede 55’s design has an elevated freeboard, a comfortable center-cockpit, a nominal sail area of 55 square meters and additional volume below deck. She was inspired by Rolly Taskers “Siska”, a Knud Reimers 40 square meter boat modified for the Sydney-Hobart Race. The Swede 55 is a nimble, fast and exceptional performing sailing yacht; capable of handling rough seas and keeping her crew safe and comfortable. The boat was built to very high standards as an easily managed yacht. Whether cruising, racing or offshore pursuits, the Swede 55 is powered by a modest sail plan, easily managed by a shorthanded crew, yet offers a full cruising interior with practical accommodations. During this owners ownership, numerous upgrades have been made to her sail inventory, canvas, electronics, wiring, and overall appearance.

Formua E asked me if I I could take an electric vehicle to the Rome Formula E Race to ride around their track. Having only my Mr Bean Armchair, the tools came out and an electric drift trike was created. I have previously made a motorised 125cc drift trike and this electric version is not to better it, but to add an alternative. Over the three years of the motorised version being on Youtube, I have been sent loads of pictures from people that have followed the build video to make their own and I hope that this build will also tempt people to create their own. This particular build is a pricey one (around £2000) however in the future I hope to build a no weld, cheeper version.

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. With no previous sailing experience necessary, it’s a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. The brainchild of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world, the event is now in its twelfth edition, the Clipper 2019-20 Race. Started from London on 1 September 2019, the fleet will complete its circumnavigation when it returns eleven months later, in August 2020. Divided into eight legs and between 13 and 16 individual races, you can choose to complete the full circumnavigation or select individual legs. It is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of eleven identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper and first mate to safely guide the crew. Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives - an unparalleled challenge where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, and engineers team up with rugby players. The sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide - if Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready to face the same challenges as the pro racer. Navigate the Doldrums en route to South America, endure epic Southern Ocean storms, experience South African sunsets, face the mountainous seas of the North Pacific - and bond with an international crew creating lifelong memories before returning victorious.

The Gitana fleet evolves with every passing season and the various competitions within them. However, whether they have one, two or three hulls, the Edmond de Rothschild craft all have one thing in common: innovation and excellence. After a brief spell in the monohull and Vendée Globe universe for two seasons, together with the construction and fine-tuning of a latest generation 60-footer equipped with foils, the racing stable founded by Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild is returning to its first love: the multihull. The Maxi Edmond de Rothschild - christened Gitana 17 – is joining the long Gitana line heralding a new era in the category of large oceanic multihulls. Indeed, with this boat, the team intends to fly around the world.

In early 2017, the Mini 747 prototype was the first and is still the only offshore racing monohull that can stay steadily airborne. At 8 knots of wind, only the foils touch the water, which means that it can reach higher speeds in certain points of sailing than those of water displacing sailing yachts twice its size. Up until now the boat showcased SEAir’s expertise and our technological development laboratory, but we are now getting it ready to return to racing. It will race in the events of the Mini circuit, including the well-known single-handed Mini Transat, blazing the trail of foiling monohulls crossing the Atlantic in record time. Having gained experience on the 747, SEAir is now in a position to design the elder sisters of this forerunner, destined to beat records and take part in the top open, single-handed, rating or crewed races. Currently only sailing on certain circuits, foiling boats will naturally continue their ascension and end up sailing in all racing programmes.

Lionheart is designed for cruising as well as racing, and is therefore built to MCA. No expense has been spared to ensure that she is competitive on the race course, and her performance has been optimised by a design that incorporates research done on previous J-class yachts. Lionheart’s hull is built in high tensile Alustar plating and extrusion materials, and she employs longitudinal stringers to ensure maximum stiffness. Tremendous 17-metre overhangs lend Lionheart a striking appearance. She features two deckhouses and two cockpits, with one of each reserved for the owner, and the owners’ cockpit linked to their suite for maximum privacy.

A well-designed sailing yacht is a thing of pure beauty, here are just 10 of the world’s finest… in my eyes at least! Velsheda
When she was launched in 1933, the J-Class yacht Velsheda represented the cutting edge of technology and sophistication and won races against all the great yachts of her day. However, she only was only used for three seasons and after World War 2 it looked as though none of these great yachts would ever sail again. King George V’s Britannia had already been scuttled south of the Isle of Wight, and Velsheda became a houseboat, firmly embedded into the River Hamble Mud for almost 50 years. In the 1970s she was saved from being cut up for scrap after being bought by a group of enthusiasts led by Bembridge bank manager Royce Pook. She then became the first of the class to be restored – in near original specification – thanks to Yorkshire scrap metal merchant Terry Brabant who bought her in 1984. Further refits after Brabant’s ownership saw her refurbished into the spectacular luxury yacht we see today.

The Club was founded in 1972 on Queen Mary Reservoir which was originally built between 1919 and 1924. We are very proud of our rich heritage as a top racing venue, the home of the iconic Bloody Mary as well as a friendly members Club with a firm place in the local community. The plans for building the reservoir were originally concieved in 1912 when it was first thought that two would be built. These were subsequently altered with the bund (or baffle) put in place to promote water circulation from inlet to outlet. This measure was considered to be important to promote the purity of the water prior to the introduction of chlorination in 1916. The reservoir was completed on Dec 31st 1924 and opened by King George V on June 12th 1925. It has a surface area of 707 acres and has a capacity of 6,700 million gallons. The length of the perimeter is nearly four miles and the City of London could easily be accommodated in it. Click here for more details.

By reporting your own positions, MarineTraffic will be able to display your vessel on the Live Map. Visibility: Real-time vessel positions displayed on the MarineTraffic Live Map are extremely useful to a wide spectrum of users closely-related to the shipping industry one way or the other. To name a few, ship owners, agents, pilots, tug operators, port authorities, crews' families and friends, passengers, cargo handlers or recipients, brokers, leisure boaters, sailing racers, ship chandlers, bunkering companies, yacht charterers or brokers may have a reason to monitor the positions of your vessel. The list of interested parties is unlimited while the numbers speak for themselves; the visibility of the MarineTraffic website is such that the number of visitors per day well exceeds the half a million mark! Safety: Although MarineTraffic is not intended to be used as a safety tool, there are many cases where making your position widely known could enhance your safety at sea. Making your position known to the public may be complementary to the official means of distress reporting (such as EPIRB or DSC radio) and may help in Search & Rescue (SAR) procedures where the position of the vessel cannot be acquired by other means. Historical data: MarineTraffic stores historical data in its database. Historical data regarding the past movements of your vessel could be accessed for many reasons; such as just for fun or recollection, for statistical reasons, for analyzing tracks in comparison to weather conditions, for accident investigation etc. Consider it as an online log of yours!

When I first mentioned that I wanted to build a homemade scratch built carbon fiber triathlon or Time Trial bike (TT Bike), my friends looked at me like I was crazy. They’re probably right but so far it hasn't killed me yet. And honestly, it’s a beautiful ride; smooth, light and comfortable. Of course I’m not the first that’s created a bike out of carbon fiber, but I am one of only a few that has done it out of their garage without the use of CNC machining and complex tooling methods. I opted for the plug and bag method- Which means I create a plug out of Styrofoam, wrap with carbon fiber and then vacuum-bagged it. I’ll explain more about the process later.

The truth is that I did not come up with this concept on my own. I found the Lotus Sport 110 Bike while doing some searches and fell in love with the design. The Lotus Sport won a leg or two of the Tour De France before the UCI came out with its bike standards; which pretty much killed the bike. Anyway there are still a few around, here and there, but that doesn't matter because I decided to build one with my own "flare." I decided to label this design the Z Frame because it looks like a "Z" (when looking at it from the left side). Here is a photo of the Lotus Sport 110- Click on the photo to go to the forum where I got this picture, or if you want more information.

Carbon fibre-reinforced carbon (aka carbon–carbon, abbreviated C/C) is a composite material consisting of carbon fiber reinforcement in a matrix of graphite. It was developed for the nose cones of intercontinental ballistic missiles, and is most widely known as the material for the nose cone and wing leading edges of the Space Shuttle orbiter. It has been used in the brake systems of Formula One racing cars since 1976; carbon–carbon brake discs and pads are a standard component of Formula One brake systems.
